Council tax bills set to be frozen for third year in Hull and East Riding
East Yorkshire's council tax bills are set to be frozen for a third year.
Chancellor George Osborne confirmed the intention to continue the freeze at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham.
-

'Helping people': Cllr John Fareham has welcomed the tax freeze.
It means taxpayers in Hull and the East Riding will see no increase in what they currently pay for council services from next April.
It is unclear whether they will face paying extra for police services. That decision will rest with the region's new police and crime commissioner, who is due to be elected in November.

Taking over from the Humberside Police Authority, it will be up to the commissioner to decide the level of the police precept.
Councillor John Fareham, Conservative group leader on the city council, said: "This shows our commitment to helping people.
"I have served for many years in Hull and recall the high tax rises both Labour and the Liberal Democrats supported, sometimes as much as 10 per cent. It is a shift away from taxing until the pips squeak."

“Weird how one day the Labour support give me 16+'s and then on another day they give me -34
Both posts said the same thing!!”

“peescooper,
So what is it you do that makes you live in such dire circumstances?
Presumably this has not just ahppened, I can't see how someone who doesn't drink or smoke, has no debt, or go on holiday yet still struggles to pay the bills.
So what exactly do you do? That pays so little you can't afford your bills? Despite having no luxuries.”

“People need to understand that the only people raking it in, in local authority are the senior management/chief exec.
The rest of us are sinking. I'm struggling with household bills, I don't drink or smoke, I swapped from gas to solid fuel as I chop up pallets to burn..I haven't had a holiday in years and I don't live beyond my means (no credit cards etc) so please, lets ditch this 'public sector wealthy slackers' view eh? We all work extra hours for no overtime but you can the fat cat at the top leaves on time every night..”

“@fredflinty
Such a plank me errr Goole Town Council increased their precept by 1.6% last year, so hmm what makes you think they won't next year. So before you decide to attack me read up a little bit.”

“I work in the Public Sector and for an Admin job I am getting less then a person in the private sector for the same job so BeverleyBard get your facts right.”

“Great to hear this news, which means that our councils will not be allowed to increase the amount of the "free dip" that they have from our finances. As to Kewstu's concerns over public sector pay rises - this means that they will soon have sunk to something near to what private sector workers can expect for doing a similar job. Soon the only difference will be the gold-plated public pensions!”

“'Taking over from the Humberside Police Authority, it will be up to the commissioner to decide the level of the police precept.'
So, cue Prezza et al trying to win more votes by promising no rise in council tax to fund the police force...”

“No increase? Council tax should go DOWN in line with the reduction in services.
Get less, pay less!”

“Great that means in year 4 it will be a 10 to 15 % rise.
This also means no public sector pay rise next year for the 3rd year running.
This also means Goole Town Council will no doubt increase their precept as we are a Labour Council.”
