County Road North flyover will re-open ahead of schedule
The County Road North flyover, which has been closed for essential maintenance, will re-open weeks ahead of schedule, the council say.
The flyover, which was closed last Tuesday, was due to undergo a seven week programme of repairs.
However, the council today announced the road will be re-opened in just over two weeks. The move will cost more money but is hoped to alleviate the traffic problems that have plagued the area throughout the week.
Graham Hall, Assistant Head of Transport and Asset Management, announced earlier today: “Following on from a review earlier today we are pleased that County Road North flyover will re-open well ahead of the estimated opening date of week ending 11 November.

“The works carried out to date have removed some of the damaged concrete and allowed our engineers to reassess the extent of works required.
"In doing so, they have taken particular regard to the traffic problems caused by the closure and have identified ways in which the final phases can be completed after the flyover has been re-opened to traffic, albeit at an increased cost.
“However, to complete this phase of the works the flyover will continue to be closed to traffic until around weekend of 13/14 October.
"We apologise for any inconvenience and disruption this has caused to drivers caused by this necessary closure.”

“Head and Assistant head of transport and asset management should be sacked for gross incompetence. A review and policy changing decisions undertaken after works have started proves that the project was not fully observed and planned before it was approved to happen. This road is a main artery in Hull's transport network. A comprehensive study completed way in advance should have been commissioned so that commuter numbers at peak times were known. This would then have evidenced the focus needed in planning the repairs and what the problems would be in road closures to the surrounding residents, schools and colleges, buses, commuters and business. They are acting as if they are surprised by the public backlash and criticism. Also they should have known about the other local road works going on at the same time and when Hull Fair is!”

“open quicker as it will cost more money, which proved my point (which was pulled from here???) when this story broke as i simply stated it will be understaffed, take ages, they will start late, finish early and do 'not much' when they actually work.
be much better if when these repairs are needed the flood the place with workers to get it smashed out asap..
All academic ( = no common sense) bean counters in charge though”

“Thank you - well done. Sadly repairs have to be carried out sometimes, bringing difficulties with them. Hopefully some of the moaners and protesters against the temporary closure who have been voluble in their objections will find this article and say thanks also.”
