Cyclist dies after being hit by a truck – HGV driver in custody

Witnesses are being sought to a crash which killed a cyclist in east Hull.

As reported on the Mail's website yesterday, the man was hit by a truck shortly after 11am in Hedon Road at the junction with Emily Street.

The cyclist, who is believed to be in his 60s, died at scene.

The driver of the HGV, a 48-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and remains in custody.

Inspector Roger Mitchell, of Humberside Police's roads crime section, said: "We would like anyone who was in the area to contact us. Anyone who saw anything, even the manner of driving previous to the collision, would assist us."

Mr Mitchell told the Mail inquiries were being carried by officers to identify the man.

It is understood the articulated lorry was pulling out of Emily Street into Hedon Road.
