“Hi, me again, last night I wrote: "The daft thing is Hull Council have recently put up a new sign, just before Trenton garage, indicating that traffic at the lights should turn into Anlaby Park Road North if they are in the right hand lane and should use the left hand lane for Anlaby High Road, but have so far failed to change the road markings!"
The sign is now covered up - I presume until the paint wagon arrives!”

“Squaggles, in whose opinion is too close? Is there a specified distance in the highway code.
Cyclists used to complain if they get hit by a car, now they are moaning if a car comes near.
If you aren't happy being on the road with other road users, stay off the road.”

“A lot of drivers pass far too close to cyclists , even when the road is empty and they could give plenty of room some still insist on passing within inches at 40+ miles an hour”

“I don't know the cycle lane that this cyclist was using in Stockholm Road, but if it's anything like the Anlaby High Road "cycle lane", it's a death trap for cyclists. Why put a cycle lane in the middle of a main road like they've done in Anlaby High Road?
On Sunday, my son and I were cycling back from Springhead Lane after my son had played football, via Westborough Way to avoid the traffic, but as soon as we got to Anlaby High Road cars were racing from the Trenton traffic lights in the cycle lane! OK, we waited until the cars had gone, but why put a cycle lane in the middle of the road?
The daft thing is Hull Council have recently put up a new sign, just before Trenton garage, indicating that traffic at the lights should turn into Anlaby Park Road North if they are in the right hand lane and should use the left hand lane for Anlaby High Road, but have so far failed to change the road markings!
Hull council also fine cyclists for riding on the paths, but what have East Riding done? They have widened the path between Trenton and Anlaby Common to allow for cyclists and pedestrians. From Anlably Common to Haltemprice / Hop Pole roundabout they have a cyslist / pedestrian path. This is much better for cyclists, providing the cyclists give way to the pedestrians.
I hope this cyclist recovers soon, but why has this story mentioned this 66 year old has a mountain bike? Surely it's irrelevant what bike he is riding if he is riding in a cycle lane.
Any car drivers, like myself, give room for cyclists and motorbikers: they only have two wheels.
Rant over!”

I see your point but to quote the HDM: A 66-year-old cyclist was left with a broken collar bone after falling from his bike as a car passed by him on Stockholm Road in Hull.
This story is somewhat confusing. Are we to believe the car made contact with the cyclist? If not, they would probably not be aware of the incident and of course would go on their way. Are the police saying this is a hit and run? I hope it's not that this man fell off his bike and is seeking to put the blame on someone else and make a claim.”

“this time last year, with full lights on and keeping close to the kerb, on an almost empty road, my bike was clipped by an idiot who misjudged his/her place on the road. The left side wing mirror hit my handlebars, with aloud bang and sent me flying, and he/she carried on at speed -i was lucky, as i was slowing down to turn into the local supermarket carpark, otherwise, it could have been a lot worse. My consolation is that he lost his wing mirror casing in the process (dark blue if anyone is missing one)...... when i stopped shaking, i retrieved it from the middle of the road and it is now a reminder at home to the stupidity of some drivers, and the vulnerability of cyclists”
