Two talented singers dazzled the crowd at the third heat of Talent Trail 2010.

Crooner Steve Williams had the audience singing along to his three songs – Green Green Grass of Home by Tom Jones, Lost by Michael Buble, and Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond.

Steve, of east Hull, said he was delighted to get through to the next round.

He said: "I'm very surprised – it's amazing. I entered the competition last year and missed getting through to the next round by one point, so this is fantastic.

"I love to entertain people – it's what I live for, it's brilliant."

The 44-year-old DJ added: "My son has performed at Hull City Hall with his band and it would be great to reach the Talent Trail final and follow in his footsteps."

The judges also thought powerful vocalist Rachel Harrington, 36, hit all the right notes at Tuesday night's heat.

The mum-of-two secured the second spot in the next round of the competition with assured performances of Big Spender by Shirley Bassey, Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams and the Greatest Love of All, by Whitney Houston.

Rachel, an accountant from Cleethorpes, said: "I'm absolutely over the moon – I can't believe it.

"It was so tough, I couldn't pick between all the entrants."

The third heat of the contest, which took place at the Barham Hotel in Marfleet Lane, east Hull, featured fine performances from all five vocalists.

Powerful singer David Gill, of Longhill, 17-year-old guitarist and singer Haydn Wood, from Bilton, and 16-year-old Laura Barratt, of Sutton Park, impressed the audience with confident performances.

The next heat of Talent Trail 2010 takes place at the Dene Park Sports and Social Club, in Beverley Road, Dunswell, tonight, with doors opening at 7pm.

The winning contestants in each heat will progress to the semi-finals, hoping to secure a place in the final at Hull City Hall on Thursday, May 20.

The winner will receive a prize of £1,500 and the Talent Trail trophy.

Money raised through Talent Trail will go to the Mail's charity of the year, Dove House Hospice's Love You 2 Appeal.

The east Hull aims to raise a staggering £2,700 every day for the next two-and-a-half years and reach an ambitious target of £2.5m. The money will be used to expand the hospice provide better care for people with life-limiting conditions.
