Darren Lockyer said: "We have just seen the shark feeding, although I think the stingrays were dominating. I have got two boys and the eldest, who is two-and-a-half, would have loved to come here today. He would have had a ball."

Fans jostled to have photographs taken and autographs signed by the players, who will be playing at an England v France game at the MS3 Craven Park Stadium tomorrow as a warm up to next year's international matches.

Claire Hellesoe, who was visiting with her five-year-old son Sonnybill, was delighed to meet Darren Lockyer.

She said: "Darren Lockyer seems really nice: I am a real fan."

Councillor Geraghty, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said: "The trophy tour with Darren Lockyer and England should create some rugby league excitement in the city ahead of the Rugby League World Cup 2013 games, which are now less than a year away.

"Saturday's England v France match at MS3 Craven Park is a real opportunity for Hull fans to show their passion for rugby league."

During the Rugby League World Cup in 2013, Hull and East Yorkshire will host the French and Papua New Guinean teams. France will stay at the Holiday Inn Hull Marina Hotel and will train at Sirius Academy, while Papua New Guinea will stay at The Village Hotel and train at Craven Park.

Tickets for tomorrow's match are available at the Hull KR shop in the city centre or at the stadium.
