The Cork slams into the Hull and Humber
On Sunday, the Cork, Ireland Clipper crashed into the Hull and Humber yacht, moments after they left Cape Town for leg three of the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race.
The damage to the Hull and Humber was extensive, after the bow of Cork ripped into its side and left a gaping hole.
Now, crew have checked into a guesthouse in Cape Town while the repairs are carried out.
Meanwhile, Cork is likely to be fixed and back on the water in three to four days.
The Clipper Ventures race committee are deciding whether to give the Hull and Humber some points for this leg of the race, because the crash was not their fault.
The race has seven legs and takes 10 months. It is the world's most prestigious yacht race.
For the crew's reaction, see tomorrow's Mail.

“Typical case of mouth in gear when brain is empty .I think you have mistaken the clipper for a different yacht , ie the Cat Zero ( aka nhs yacht..which is incidentally sponsored by a lot more than just the nhs )
In either case you are totally wrong with your assumptions.
This is a clipper taking part in the round the world yacht race which has two very deserving teens In each leg who have 'graduated ' from cat zero and won places by merit on the clipper race.
They are representing Hull as Hull ambassadors, they are well trained no matter what their original background ...It is not a pleasure cruise.
They are not 'naughty boys' evading the law they are teens ( 17 to 19 ) who for whatever reason were unemployed or out of college / further educationat the time they undertook the course
Many of the people on board are business men/women and professionals ..please do your homework before humiliating yourself.
google 'cat zero' and 'clipper race' ..they are two totally different projects”

“so the boat sinks? Whilst i wouldnt wish bad of the people on board am i right in suggesting that alot of the youngsters on board are troubled, poss criminals and maybe selected in the hope they reform?
Is this another case of people behaving badly been given more opportunities then peers who abide by the rules?
Might not be a bad thing.....let all the 'non-conformist's' bid for a place, accept them for places, then maybe accidentally send them to the Burmuda Triangle - anyone that has a decent documentary will have their fingers crossed....could we get away with making it a yearly thing?
Better then going through the courts, right?”
