Moves to shut the two Driffield area primaries this summer have been met with stern opposition from parents, who have voiced shock over the speed of the proposals.

With just 20 pupils, the council says, per pupil, Langtoft Primary is the East Riding's most expensive school to run.

The council is looking to close 26-pupil Gembling Primary because it will go into the red under a new national funding regime.

The council's cabinet will receive a report on the consultations on April 23. If the cabinet decides to proceed with formal proposals to close any of the schools, public notices will be published.

There would then be a six-week period during which more representations can be made.
