Dog owners are being urged to have their pets vaccinated after a suspected outbreak of a deadly virus in Hull.

In the last three months staff at PDSA's Hull PetAid hospital, in Brunswick Avenue, west Hull, have treated more than 84 dogs with suspected parvovirus.

The main symptoms of parvovirus are vomiting and diarrhoea.

If left untreated it can be fatal and is particularly serious in puppies, as they also risk developing heart disease from the virus.

Dog owners who suspect their pet may have the disease, or is showing symptoms of it, are being advised to keep them isolated and call their vet for advice.

Do not take the dog into the vets without calling first as it could spread the disease to unvaccinated puppies and dogs in the waiting room.

“It really does amaze me that at this current moment in time, businesses are struggling, public sector workers are looking at huge redundancies, yet I'm still making tons of wonga on the side! I get housing benefit and council tax benefit and voila I can save thousands in vet bills by scamming a charity that relies on fundraising and donations. I sit in the waiting room watching pensioners struggle with their animals and after their animals have been seen they still manage to donate something towards paying for the costs. I on the other hand like to just walk straight to the reception and bag a handful of medicines, all gratis for my poorly animal....jesus, if i'd have gone to a private vet, it would have cost me £700! The way I look at it is i've saved £700, you're not getting me donating...I'm what this country is built on....hand outs, and if I can rip an organisation like the PDSA off then thats a result! MOI with his comment below is right when he says "how right is that' for god sake all you honest people out there plow your hand into your pockets, fundraise more, old people leave more in your will to the PDSA, so that they can employ more hard working staff and build bigger premises because this country is a huge hell hole full of people like me who just expect, take and never give anything back to society...I am scum, you will never give me respect because I dont deserve it, i am everything that is wrong with this country...”

“I am on benefits, I breed dogs and make loadsamoney!!! What I do is, I drive a massive Range Rover, i'm not kidding and I drive down to the PDSA with my poorly animals and take up the precious time of the vets and vet nurse who are up against a system that allows spongers like me to use and abuse their services. I am on all the correct benefits to qualify, I sell my pups for lots of money. I would rather USE the PDSA and save loads of cash in vet fees, then go and do what i'm good at spending all that saved money down Witham! Really sorry to MOI of Hull, but the reason that your animal cant be fitted in right now is because me and all my fellow benefit dodgers are stretching the Charity run PDSA to the max...Oh and if I don't get seen on time i'll stamp my feet, because I'm used to getting everything laid on in this world!!! If you are a genuine individual who has a sick animal, then I DONT apologise because I've got loadsamoney and you haven't!”

“if my dog was ill i would take the dog to a private vet and pay. benefit scroungers have to contribue a few pennies of their benefit that other people have worked for.
When a pet is in such distress i would hope that one would pay for the dog to be seen a private vet the let in suffer because you have to pay.”
