Maria Temkow, for Windass, said her client had been suffering from depression but was not an alcoholic.
"He bitterly regrets getting into that car," she said.
Windass, who had no previous convictions, was banned from driving for 28 months. He must also complete 250 hours of unpaid work and pay £165 costs.

“Brittincal 2010 Deano does have his badges and was assistant manager or coach at Darlington when he finished playing. The job though did not last long due to poor results. I am not sure whether he would make a good coach of the strikers it does not always follow that because you could play the game that you can coach it. Look at Hull City under Barmby we could not score and now under Bruce we have defended badly. The one thing that puzzles me with the current situation the game finishes at 10 it takes an hour to drive to Leeds and he has drunk two glasses of wine. He was never fast on the football field he must be even slower in the bar.”

“i Believe for Deaono to have been 3 times over the limit he must have gone straight from drinking into his car....maybe thats why the judge gave him community service as well as the ban..
Heres hoping you can now put your stupid mistakes behind you and start to build a better life for yourself...stop drinking or you will end up dead.
Remember your Kids need you to be around for them.
All the best Deano ....”

“I suppose "2 large glasses of wine" could have been 2 pints!”

“Clearly he'd drank a considerable amount more than he admitted. So you can add porky pies to the offence commited. Totally agree with Jimmy Melton. Mr Average gets nailed (and quite rightly) for the same offence, whilst, Windass, because of who is is gets off really lightly. Shame on the courts!”

“I don't believe for a second that the one time he crashed is the only time he's driven over the limit. He's probably been endangering lives for ages.”
