But he is believed to have decided to link-up with Boundary Park boss John Sheridan, who he knows well from his playing days.
The striker is currently finalising an 18-month permanent deal and will also be reunited with his former Middlesbrough team-mate Mark Crossley.
He could now make his debut for the promotion-chasing League One outfit against Hartlepool tomorrow, subject to the game going ahead.
The Boundary Park turf has been under snow all week and, although it has now melted, the pitch remains frozen underneath and Hull-based match referee Carl Boyeson was due to hold an interim inspection this evening.

“Deano will always be loved by the people of Hull But if city call again Deano Id tell them do one. Best of luck in what ever you do you will be remembered as a character both on and off the pitch and should be up there among the citys famous sons like Larkin Wilberforce and Ronson.”

Good luck Deano and thanks for putting city were they are today.”

“Ode To Deano....
Although you aren't dead
This tribute's being said...
At Wemberley
Your goal made us trembely
You got us in top flight
With your true grit and fight
You have done Hull proud
The crowd was always loud....
Chanting "DEANO ! WE LOVE YOU ! "
And this will always be true.

“A sad day for Hull, Deano got us to the Premiership and should stay with the club to see their first season out. At the end of the day if he's not happy with the club then I for one wish him all the best. Deano has made his mark alongside the likes of Ken Wagstaff and Chris Chilton to name but a few. Good luck Deano.”
