THE Ministry of Defence objected to the turbines, saying they would interfere with radar from RAF Staxton Wold.

The radar station near Scarborough monitors aircraft coming over the Yorkshire coast.

Its objection states the turbines could create "false" aircraft alerts and also make it less likely that actual aircraft will be spotted.

That would mean the RAF being unable to provide full air surveillance in the area of the development.

Even if those objections are overcome, the RAF says the turbines must be fitted with red or infra-red lighting.
