Delays have been reported across West Hull, including Priory Road, Springbank West and Chanterlands Avenue this morning.

The council say repairs are necessary after several years of winter gritting has weakened the bridge. The signed traffic diversion is via Calvert Road, Spring Bank West, Chanterlands Avenue and Bricknell Avenue.

The arterial road provides a link to large parts of west Hull and will remain closed throughout Hull Fair.

Meanwhile, the Chanterlands Avenue roadworks have been suspended, however the Bricknell Avenue roadworks and roadworks in Thwaite Street in Cottingham continue.

Traffic is also slow this morning on the A63 Castle Street westbound at Mytongate, and on Ferensway northbound between West Street and the A165 Freetown Way.

“Nightmare for all concerned, i bekeive an accident on bev road made it even worse to ight. The only positive for is that my life is very quiet for even weeks as i live on county road, not that i can enjoy it as i am stuck in traffic getting to or from work walking from now on”

“Gridlock was forecast last week as soon as it was obvious that Hull and East Riding councills were not working together. Road works in Cottingham and on the A164 Hessle to A1179 as well as Anlaby Road all at the same time perhaps some could have been done during August as 20% reduction in Traffic due to School holidays”

“Having just watched the report on Look Lincolnshire (sorry - Look North!) It appears that part of the problem lies with the crossings at Spring Bank. I cant think of ANY other city where this would be allowed to happen. I trust that there will be someone from our council sitting on a doorstep of Network rail to DEMAND that these totally unreliable gates are either FIXED properly (a can of WD40 and some polybags should do the trick) or replaced. This state of affairs should not be allowed to continue- it is not rocket science. Also I ask again, with the small number of cars coming from south of the bridge works onto Priory Road, and virtually no cars going into County Road, why cant the traffic lights be switched off totally? We can all understand that sometimes works are identified that are urgent and unexpected (Councillor Mancey HDM tonight) , but I simply do not understand how this gridlock could not have been predicted and managed better.”

“Hear, hear: Noseyparker87!!! And if they did that, the jobs might get done properly too rather than having to be redone/patched up every couple of years!!”

“I don't understand why they have to have minimum people doing different roads here, there and everywhere. Why can't they do a couple at a time and stick more people on each job and get it finished quicker and that way cause less disruption to every one?”

“Road works of this nature are never going to be good, but no forward planning has gone into this. Priory Road has parking on both sides from SBW all the way towards Cott, this should have been stopped, traffic lights at the County Road junction should have been reset to allow more green time to the main flows, not County Rd, traffic lights on Chanterlands at SBW should have more green time to allow more out of Chants to make the right hand turn. Simple things like this would go a long way. What does not help though are the huge tail backs on Anlaby Road with the 3-way temp lights causing many to find another route, the ongoing trench being dug along the full length of Bricknell all the way to Cottingham and the fact that both diversion routes cross the level crossings which spend more time allowing trains through than road traffic and the fact that a week on Friday we have HULL FAIR !
Yes Hull City Council, you have proved once and for all you are thick as poo !”

“Also barriers jammed AGAIN at Walton St, why is nothing ever done to sort this problem once and for all. Railtrack should be sued.”
