"My grandad used to be a showman, running some fun fair rides. All the kids and wives of the showmen used to arrange a dance competition and a Miss Hull Fair.

"The year I won, my cousin was the dance winner."

Natalie Horsfield was pictured as a two-year-old Natalie Marsay, reaching over the water to hook a duck.

Natalie, now 28, said: "It has always been a tradition for me to go to Hull Fair and now I take my little ones.

"When I saw the picture in the paper, my first thought was 'what the heck have they dressed me in?'

Paul Marshall, 29, was photographed at the Forever Friends stall in 1992.

He said: "My friend texted me the picture out of the blue and said it was in the paper.

"It was really weird seeing it – my eldest son Nathan looks like I did then.

"My mum still has the cutting from when the picture was in the paper the first time."

Claire Blagg, of Preston, was pictured on her dad's shoulders in 1988.

The photograph appeared in the Mail on October 6 – a happy coincidence for the family.

Sandy Blagg, Claire's mum and Chris's wife, said: "It was my husband's 60th and our 28th wedding anniversary, so when someone said there was a picture in the paper, we thought someone had put it in as a joke.

"Chris has said he wouldn't get Claire on his shoulders now."

Claire, who was four at the time, had been running her hands along windows when they were stopped by the photographer – hence her blackened hands.

She said: "It is one of the happiest photographs I have of me and my dad – it looks fantastic. It was such a lovely occasion."

Chris Moody was wide-eyed with wonder when he was photographed as an eight-year-old on the carousel in 1987 with his grandmother, Ivy.

Chris, now 33, who lives in Hessle, said; "I was only talking about it the other day and then I saw the photo in the paper.

"My auntie called me to tell me it was in.

"Hull Fair was a big one on the calendar – along with birthdays, Christmas and Bonfire Night.

"I had some great times there when I was young."

Gina Wainman was pictured in yesterday's Mail with a doll in 1987.

She is now Gina Smith, 31, and still loves attending the fair.

The Hessle resident said: "My mum phoned to tell me a picture was in the paper – I couldn't believe it.

"I don't even remember not having front teeth when I was six.

"It must have been windy because my hair looks a mess."
