“The only reason we have a royal family is because sometime way back the hardest bloke won a fight and proclaimed himself boss. There is no link to God, if he even exists, so why the hell do we let these pompous g*ts take all our hard-earned cash and lord it over us? They are the most shocking waste of tax-payers money, not to mention the fact that their poseesions - land, jewelry, art etc could wipe out the country's defecit in one fould swoop. Make them all work for a living.”

You are so right, they do cost a tremendous amount of money and yes there are some benefits derived from tourism and the like, however why do we have a monarch and his or her consort PLUS dozens and dozens of their family.

They are there by a quirk of birth but I disagree with supporting the likes of "Airmiles Andy" whose sole aim in life is to spend taxpayers money in huge quantities with no tangible benefits in return.

Much of the blame for their excesses is due to the many courtiers and establishment figures surrounding them who would be out of a job if the monarchy were either slimmed down or replaced.”

“Many will not be celebrating the Diamond Jubilee this week-end, myself included. The depressing spectacle of inherited privilege paraded in public is a depressing sight when many in this country are struggling to make ends meet. One day we may see the demise of this undemocratic institution and I will be amongst the many more millions on the street celebrating its end. Now that really be be something worth celerbrating! The only positive thing I can think of is that it provides photographers like me with a few photo opportunities!”
