    “to WhoMeNever:

Well I think I can guess some possible reasons why this info would not be published. The police apparently want to find the passers-by who stopped and helped the victim. If this was you, you will know it was you. You don't need to be given a description.

If the police want a witness statement from the passers-by, the credibility of such a statement, if called into question, would be diminished if the descriptions of victims/assailants was published. If you can describe them accurately, when those details have not been published, I would say that proves you were there at the time, does it not?

Hence there's nothing to be gained from publishing details, but there is something to be potentially lost - credibility of any witness statements.

    But I'm only guessing.”

“Descriptions of the victim/assailants might be a good idea (can't imagine why this hasn't been published or divulged).”
