Disappearance of FC photographs smacks of pettiness

THEY say a picture is worth a thousands words.

But it also seems he absence of pictures speaks volumes too.

The disappearance of Hull FC photographs from the walls at the KC Stadium in recent days smacks of pettiness to me.

I can appreciate that those who run the KC Stadium need to make it pay – the fact it's apparently made six- figure losses in the past two years sounds worrying – but taking FC memorabilia from the walls sounds like something my six-year- old would do when she's in a sulk.

Seriously, was there no more diplomatic way to handle this?

Taking down the pictures of an 82-year-old true Hull hero like Johnny Whiteley just shows a lack of ... class.

It's not as if FC don't already contribute to the stadium. According to Councillor Terry Geraghty, FC pay the Stadium Management Company £600,000 a year in rent. Surely any increase to buy a few feet of wall space – the same "nominal" fee that the Tiger are said to pay – could have been achieved without such a public slight?

In another intriguing turn of events, though, pictures of Bon Jovi and REM are still said to be hanging at the stadium – suggesting that Jon Bon Jovi and Michael Stipe have both agreed to pay to have pictures of their KC gigs on display.

There's no mention of Elton John, though, so maybe the piano-playing rock god has declined to pay the SMC's price, deciding instead to splash his cash on a new set of ginger wigs.
