LAST March, an elderly couple were playing Scrabble in their west Hull home when the ceiling of their library collapsed on them.

Norman Staveley, 83, and his wife, Gwen, 85, said they felt lucky to be alive.

Mr Staveley was thrown from his chair by the force of the collapse but managed to lead his wife, who had recently been discharged from hospital after a hip operation, to safety.
