“What anyone fails to mention or acknowledge is the weather conditions that evening, and would be horrified to know that the man that died had for many years been a bus driver; described by his colleagues as one of the most careful drivers they knew.”

“I can say that on the occassions I have almost been killed on the roads it has been human error or stupidity.
The amount of people who overtake on bends without knowing what is on the other side of the road (dangerous), overtake by crossing a solid white line (illegal), overtake into the path of an oncoming vehicle (suicidal) and tailgate at 60mph (selfish) is unbelievable. All these behaviours happen at least one a week for me.
One of the worst things I see on a regular basis is the morons who overtake at junctions, and their vehicle ends up to the right of a "keep left" bollard. That is totally moronic and totally illegal. The warning signs, bollards and prohibitions are there for a very good reason....to prevent d***heads from killing innocent motorists¬”

“My sincere condolences to those concerned.

I am reading a book called Roadcraft, which has been prepared by police officers and embodies their knowledge and experience gained through years of driving.

I think I must direct the following quote from the book at hcfchcfc08 and AstonomiaSK

"Few accidents can be directly attributed to any particular road feature or vehicle defect, but it is found that in nine cases out of ten, the cause of the accident can be traced to the failure of the 'human element' of the person or persons concerned.".

Please drive according to the road, and weather conditions and to your own abilities and the capabilities of the vehicle. Drive according to the Highway Code, which urges all to be courteous. A good driver goes further, and acknowledges the courtesies extended to him.”

“That paert of the busy A614 is in serious need of some structural change. The camber on and just before the Lowthorpe crossroads is substandard, but then if the council would prefer to spend £2.5 million from the roads budget on Parnaby's pet project in Staurday Market Beverlaay then the East Riding's roads will continue to deteriorate as they have done in the last 15 years.”

""Whatever the cause of the accident, one thing that can be safely said is that East Yorkshire roads leave a lot to be desired.""

Oh yes. Those roads just jump up and maul the poor motorist don't they? Perhaps sometimes they don't and people drive like they have a death wish?”
