“any cyclists reading this, do you know it is not a crime to ride a bike on the pavement. as long as you feel your life is in danger if riding on the road, your not riding at speed and not distressing the public. the police cant fine you or tell you to stop riding on the pavement. if your following these rules. its the law, get a print out of the law in question and keep it in your pocket for the next time a clueless copper tries to fine you”

“The front wheel of cycles is usually clipped when motorists impatiently overtake, and then return to the left hand lane without having completely passed the cyclist. Buses & lorries do it all the time, as well as people driving cars while using the phone, etc.. Also, no car drivers can take a left-hand bend correctly and usually describe a straight line throught the corner rather than an arc, impinging on the cyclist's space. This however, ususally results in contact with either the handlebars, or the outside leg of the vulnerable two-wheeled road user. Hope this helps.

Its easy done and I've been nearly brought down many a time by stupid drivers. They race past you to overtake, then turn left imediatley as they have passed you and into a junction etc, the cyclist then has to brake hard if they can or turn into the junction with the vehicle or have your front wheel took away, Thats one way of it happening and it is quite common. "Left Hooking" is the term used.”

Hmm how can you clip the front wheel of a cycle unless the cyclist turned the wheel outwards into the cars path or if at a junction did the cyclist go through a red light and a passing car caught the wheel as the cyclist illegally emerged from the junction.

seems strange to me, hit the back wheel yes, took them out with the side of the car yes drove at an angle to hit the front wheel ? no"

Someone I worked with clipped my front wheel and took me out some years ago. He drifted in front of me and caught my wheel with his rear bumper he claimed he did not intend to hit me. It looks as though you are determined to find the cyclist at fault. Whatever your assumptions the car was too close and the driver should have stopped. NO?”

“Taxing bikes would cost the Govt around 30 million quid a year by issuing discs at £1 a pop with fee paid £0 written on them as they are zero rated for VED like low emission cars are. A total non starter therefore.”

“As both a cyclist and driver I have to agree with bulldog60, the standard of driving is the pits, but so is the standard of cycling - perhaps worse. We have ceased to become a civilised nation thanks to lack of behavioural standards in schools and abysmal parenting.

Cyclists who ignore red lights are the worst, why do they think they are above the law or more likely the attitude is 'can't be ars*ed - up yours - I've got my rights'.

Would be a good idea for police to do spot checks on driving licences to make sure drivers actually have one - and don't just target the easy cop-outs - us (no pun intended) - target foreigners and 'travellers' too, and also I agree with taxing bikes, I have one and have no issues taking a test, but in some parts of Hull there is no 'civilisation' just a dump.... might as well nuke the place and start again..”
