E RIDING: Motorists are being urged not to leave valuables on display after three cars were targeted.

The spate of thefts happened this week and Humberside Police officers believe they could have been easily avoided.

The first theft happened on Tuesday in the Tesco car park in Boothferry Road, Goole, at 2.30pm.

A vacuum cleaner was stolen from a blue Honda Civic that had been left unlocked and the stolen item clearly on view.

The second theft happened on Thursday, between 6pm and 6.45pm in the car park of a gym at Phoenix Enterprise Park in Grovehill Road, Beverley.

A BMW was broken into and a coat taken from a seat.

The third theft involved a black Vauxhall Corsa which had been left in the car park of a golf club in Wood Hill Way, Cottingham, between 6pm and 7.15pm on Thursday.

Again, the car was broken into in order to steal a bag left on display on the passenger seat.

A Humberside Police spokesman said: "We want to reiterate the importance of leaving vehicles secure and urge people to ensure items are not left on display when people leave their cars unattended."

Police are appealing for witnesses to any of the thefts to come forward.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.

“1. Always wipe the inside of your windscreen if you have been using a stick-on sat nav as the villains look out for these marks and will break in to find it..

    2. Also I never leave any valuables in my car and always leave the glove compartment open so the villains know there's nothing worth stealing

    3. Typical useless HDM reporting - 'The first theft happened on Tuesday in the Tesco car park in Boothferry Road, Goole, at 2.30pm' - err what was the precise day and date please...???

    4. Why should we have to lock our valuables away anyway? If there was a decent deterrent such as the threat of a public flogging for stealing surely it would put people off... (or is that too easy..??)

OOOHH Sorry I forgot villains have 'Human Rights' decent people don't.

    Aye thankyou”
