East Riding Council could extend public consultation primary school closure moves

EAST Riding Council looks set to extend the public consultation period over controversial closure moves for Dunswell Primary and Gembling Primary schools.

It follows meetings with angry parents at the two at-risk schools this week.

Parents, staff and governors at Gembling Primary have expressed shock over the speed of the closure plans for the 26-pupil village school, which the council wants to shut in July.

The council is proposing to close 88-pupil Dunswell Primary School in July next year but furious parents are challenging the move.

Paul Butler, the council's inclusion and access manager, has assured parents "it is not a done deal" and consultation is ongoing.

Parents have launched a protest petition that can be signed in The Ship Inn in the village.
