East Riding Council has revealed which flood protection schemes are to get a share of a £4m pay out.

The cash from the European Union was given to the authority following the devastation caused by the floods of June 2007.

The council has added a further £500,000 to help with the projects.

The money has been split three ways, with £500,000 being allocated to 98 investigation and minor works projects, including cleaning and repairing drains and repairs to roads and footpaths in villages across the East Riding.

A further £1.2m will go to 13 major schemes, which will include relaying drains at Cottingham and building a new sewer near the Westwood in Beverley.

Parish and town councils hit by the flooding will be given a share of £2m to be spend on 65 various projects, including upgrading drainage pipes and replacing gullies.

The remaining £800,000 will be used to carry out further investigations.

“You can be sure that when it floods again you won't find that money down those drains.
Someone will be smiling at the end of all this and it won't be the residents of ERYC.”

“Is this enough? Is it right that that unqualified Parish & Town council politicians are give more money to waist? Having looked at all long list of project I am wondering should this have already been done? Nice to see someone is finally taking note of Cottingham, who as usual have been let down by there elected representatives.”

“a lot of dykes were filled in all over the place and should be reinstated and all linked that would help also the tidal barrier should be lowered at low tide when flooding is expected so water can be pumped into it then from the tidal pumped ouut into the humber”
