A headteacher on this dinnertime's news said that his school was closed as he didn't want to be sued if someone injured themselves.
There you have it. Do you want it repeating for the impossibly naive?"
No need, as you're helping prove my point. Not sure why you thought this was an argument against me. The litigation by parents against schools is one of the reasons i suggested they sometimes close - which is hardly the fault of a teacher, and certainly doesn't involve "lazy" teachers "not being able to get to work"”

“@Hookbeak - "I'll repeat for the hard of thinking : the decision to close these schools was not made by teachers, nor was it because teachers could not get there."

“I agree with hookbeak.
The comments on here perfectly illustrate idiot Britain for me. People commenting on things they know nothing about.
To put this in perspective, I had my two off today due to the school closing. This will cost me a day's wages (I work in the Private Sector) I can ill afford to lose.
However, I recognise the reasons why the school had to close, no matter how inconvenient it is for me. I understand the safety of my and other people's children supersedes my convienience.
I also recognise the decision has nothing to do with my children's teachers. I also know these things without being involved in education and also to address the usual rubbish trotted out: BACK IN MY DAY (a cliché often trotted out on such circumstances) schools closed due to bad weather. BACK IN MY MOTHER'S DAY schools closed due to bad weather too etc. It's nothing new.
To the idiots on this thread who will no doubt struggle to understand my reasoning, try and understand this: you cause nothing but harm with these ignorant comments as they put unnecessary pressure on head teachers to keep schools open when it is unsafe.
What is it going to take? The deaths of children or parents taking children to school in wretched conditions for you stop this ill informed drivel?”

“We have to ask, why are so many closed? - Poor road conditions on school bus routes? - East ridings failure to grit the roads on a critical route! Are they closed due to heating failures? East riding council not maintaining them correctly. That's a 5 star council for you!”

“God, you people are stupid.
Teachers don't make the decision to close a school, and are not involved in the decision.
The school being closed is not related to the teachers ability to reach school at all. It's decided by the head. If your boss decided to close your place of work - how is that *your* fault exactly ?
I'll repeat for the hard of thinking : the decision to close these schools was not made by teachers, nor was it because teachers could not get there.”

“Wow.... 2in of snow! Didn't stop the rest of us getting to work, why should it prevent teachers. Just set off 30mins earlier to make sure you are punctual, or threaten the teachers with detentions.”

“Snaith was closed due to dangerous grounds, whatever that means. Pathetic.”

“Let's hope that none of the pupils are out playing on sledges or lobbing snowballs around: if they are, why are the schools closed? It can't be any inherent danger.”
