Bikers in Hull and the East Riding are expected to attend a rally to promote motorcycle riding as an alternative to cars.

The ride is also protesting against new EU rules against modifying bikes.

There will be 12 starting points in the UK – one for each European Parliament constituency.

Other rallies are taking place across Europe at the same time, and organisers are hoping more than one million bikers will take part.

The Yorkshire and Humberside ride starts from the Southbound A1 Services at Wetherby.

The demo ride leaves Wetherby Services at about 1pm on Sunday, June 24.

It will the head south on the A1, and onto the M1, finishing at Woolley Edge Services. The ride will take about 45 minutes.

This route has been deliberately chosen to avoid the Olympic Torch procession, which is in West Yorkshire on the same day.

“Probably costs more because its not as fuel efficient as many people think bikes are.
There are still oil burning two strokes on the road and a sports bike ridden hard guzzles fuel.
The scooter i used to have, 2 stroke, did around 70 mile to the gallon. There are cars around that can do that, carry 4 people and luggage too.”
