Ed Sheeran fans queue in the cold for tonight's Hull Arena show

Fans of Ed Sheeran desperate to be first though the door at tonight's show have already started queuing at Hull Arena.

Huddled under blankets, a small crowd is already gathering ahead of the show, for which doors will open at 6.30pm.

Vanessa O Neill, 19, of Sutton Park, arrived at the Arena at 7am and was first in the queue.

The trainee teaching assistant took the day off work to see her idol.

She said: "I wanted to be first in the queue to get to the front.

I love him in general but it is his music I really love and it has helped me through a lot recently."

Doting dad Jeff Rowland, 53, of west Hull, turned up at 7.48am in order to queue for his daughter Allie, who turned up at 9.48am.

Jeff, who took a deck chair in order to sit in the cold in comfort, said: "She has been a really good girl this year and I know how much she likes Ed Sheeran so I wanted to do it for her."

Tickets for the singer-songwriter's show, which went on sale in January, sold out within a few hours.

He honed his fusion of folk-rock and hip-hop by playing hundreds of gigs - over 300 in 2009 alone - building a huge underground audience, along with stars such as Jamie Foxx, that helped lift him into the mainstream last year. Hits include The A Team, Lego House and Small Bump.
