"He joins us at a time when we are riding high in the Championship play-off places and making a determined push for promotion.
"This is the right time to step up our commercial activities and build a sound platform for our business future."
Thompson, who is well known in Hull business circles, has been a member of Hull & East Yorkshire Bondholders Advisory Group as well as the Hull & Humber Business Week.
He said: "It is a privilege to become part of the Tigers and to be able to contribute to the ongoing commercial success of this great football club.
"We have a brilliant chance to make a serious promotion challenge over the rest of this season, and my job is to ensure our off the field activities equal the quality of what we are achieving on the pitch.
"I want to get the whole city and region behind us and I am enormously looking forward to working with the whole team, sponsors and fans to create great match day experiences."

“Its Ok asking for a local big name sponsor, but most of them are not interested or have anything to do with the club, the last local one was Bonus, why not Allam Marine, free advertising for the owner..”

“Yes Cash Converters doesn't have a very good reputation but there was rumored to be several clubs wanting them as sponsor and the fact we got a 7 figure sum for the privilege doesn't seem that much of a bad deal.
On the point of dove house hospice unless we waivered sponsorship money it wouldn't happen, would be really nice to see a charity on the front of the shirt, especially a Hull based one, but cant see the Allams putting them on for free.”

“I agree with Bored Marker. Dump "Cash Converters"! Apart from anything else such a shirt sponsor sends out a bad message to young people about financial responsibilities. Just because a company is prepared to cough up dosh for the privilege doesn't mean to say City have to go for them. Would they agree to be sponsored by "Spearmint Rhino", "The Sun" newspaper, "Durex" or worst of all The ConDem coalition party? My choice would be Dove House Hospice.”

“True but what I said was "a more reputable company". Cash Converters are essentially just handlers of stolen goods.”

“Nick, can you please make it your first job to find us a new, more reputable shirt sponsor? Lots of VERY big businesses with bases in Hull; Smith and Nephew, BP, Reckitt Benkeiser(spelling?), MKM, Seimens(possibly), Mitsui International Power.
Learn from the Newcastle/Wonga deal!!!!”

“Nick may may bring "a wealth of business management experience and qualifications," but obviously his personal appearance requires a Trinny and Susannah-type makeover!”
