Endeavour head Chris Straker has announced he is leaving the school to work on the city's pioneering Restorative Practices scheme.

Mr Straker has been with the school since 2005.

Deputy head Louise Wilson has been appointed acting head.

During his time at the Beverley Road School Mr Straker helped bring the school out of special measures, however, last year it slipped back into the Ofsted category for poor exam results.

Mrs Wilson will address children this morning in assembly.

Letters have also been sent to parents of pupils announcing his departure.

Restorative Practice is a scheme which has been piloted in the city, including at Endeavour School.

The idea behind the practice is to allow children to understand the consequences of their behaviour and make amends themselves.

It means instead of children being disciplined by staff, the issue is discussed and pupils come up with their own way of resolving the problem.
