Ferriby strike duo Chase more goals
WAYNE Brooksby and Gary Bradshaw will look to add to their goal tally as North Ferriby host Chasetown at Church Road today (3pm).
Brooksby will be looking for his third goal in four games as Ferriby host their first Evostik League Premier Division meeting against the newly-promoted side.
He and Bradshaw were both on target as Ferriby picked up a 2-2 draw at Burscough at the weekend.
Brooksby was again on target to hand Ferriby a quick lead in that game and his partnership with Bradshaw is already showing promise.
Bradshaw hit the Villagers' other goal at the weekend, but his side succumbed to some sustained pressure to eventually draw.
But Ferriby were happy to make it four points from two away games despite dominating for most of the first half.
Claiming two stylish goals, a penalty kept the hosts in the game at half time, and their fine second half performance was eventually rewarded by a breathtaking equaliser.
Ferriby took just 10 minutes to open the scoring with a well-judged piece of attacking play. Russell Fry lofted a ball forward from just inside the opposing half and Brooksby timed his run to perfection, deftly lobbing onrushing Burscough keeper Sean Lake for his second goal in three appearances for Ferriby.
Shortly afterwards, Bradshaw volleyed Chris Bolder's flicked header fractionally over the bar, but the striker made it 2-0 on 18 minutes, meeting Fry's cross with a close-range bullet header which left Lake with no chance.
Ferriby keeper Steve Wilson was finally called into action to smother Dave Roberts' dangerous ball from the feet of Gary McEvatt.
On 31 minutes, Burscough were handed a foothold in the game when Ben Turner brought down Matty Parry in the box and McEvatt placed the spot kick beyond Wilson's dive.
Bradshaw came close to restoring Ferriby's two-goal advantage, but Lake was able to smother his curling half volley.
Burscough looked like a new team in the second half, with the strong wind on their side, and they began an onslaught on the Ferriby goal.
Darren Brookfield was the first to come close when his dipping long range shot grazed the crossbar, before Shaun Judge's in-swinging corner nearly embarrassed Wilson at the near post but the keeper was able to punch over.
Wilson's fingertips again came to the rescue when another corner took a deflection off both McEvatt and a Ferriby defender before finally being turned over.
But the equaliser finally came on 70 minutes from a superb 30-yard piledriver from Craig Mahon which had keeper Wilson rooted to the spot.
Ferriby nearly regained their lead when Bradshaw's ball in was cleared off the line, but again Lake did well to parry at close range from Chris White.
The hosts' closest chance for victory came late on when Wilson clawed away McEvatt's shot and the defence did well to work it clear.
