Figures reveal success of Hull's Freedom Festival

Figures have been released showing how successful shows were at this year's Freedom Festival.

More than 75,000 people enjoyed the event last weekend over three days in various areas of Hull.

Music headliners Spiritualized and Martha Reeves And The Vandellas brought events to a close on Friday and Saturday night, drawing crowds of more than 5,000 to the main stage located in the Fruit Market.

The ticketed venue, Teatro Spielgeltent, smashed previous festival ticket sales, with more than 4,500 people attending shows in the mirrored dance hall.

Seven of the 12 ticketed shows also sold out, including Patrick Monahan: Shooting From the Lip; Snake Davis & Band; and Lili La Scala: Songs to Make You Smile.

Circus Ronaldo's Amortale show – an evening of comedy, theatre and visual delights – was also a sell-out show across all three nights, with 750 people buying tickets.

An estimated 20,000 people flocked to Queen's Gardens over the weekend to enjoy free family entertainment including a picnic event.
