ENTRENCHED views on working hours and related pay rates could be about to change at Hull City Council.

Against a backdrop of continuing funding cuts, council leader Steve Brady believes a new flexible approach is needed from staff and unions at the Guildhall.

"For me, the classic example is the cafe in the Ferens Art Gallery," he said. "We can't open it on Sundays at the moment even though the gallery is packed that day.

"Why is that? Because we cannot afford to pay the overtime. We have to find a way around issues like this because we're not delivering a good service to the public."
