The Floral Hall should be rebuilt on the flat area in the Hallgarth Park behind the church then it will be in easy walking access from the town centre.

There would be ample room to make car parking with access from Eastgate and Newbegin.

If it was built with a pub entrance to a bar and resturant and a terraced area, what better place to sit out and have a drink and eats on a summer night?

If it had a pub and resturant then it could be open every night. This also would shed light on the black hole which is the park as the park is not used to its full extent.

I would also like to see a cycle track round the perimeter of the park which would be lit up at night. Again, this would make more use of the park.

With a cycle and a walkway in the park and the Floral Hall (pub and resturant) this would hopefully put some rejuvenation into the town centre and open up the park for normal people and get rid of the element that use the darkness of the park to break the law.

If built in the park the Floral Hall would be more protected from the North Sea weather and thus it would be cheaper to maintain.

The other thing is it would also keep visitors and punters away from looking at the disgrace that is the sea front!

“Great idea Charlie but do Hornsea residents want 400, probably drunk, people being dispursed into the town centre at 3am on Fridays and Saturdays?? When leaving the current Floral Hall everyone has gone in different directions generally once they have left. I agree Hornsea definitely needs something more than it has for the young people, maybe a bowling alley and cinema. Imagine the damage it would do to the other cafes we have, (Chocolat and 10) if we were to put a cafe in the park. A restaurant overlooking the park wold certainly damage the other privately owned restaurants like The Lemon Tree and The Med. The profits going in the council's pocket affecting the livlihoods of the locals who own cafes and restaurants. I agree Hornsea is an eyesore and needs to be brought into the 21st century but maybe we could start with getting some of the shops to clean up their fronts. That junk shop opposite Candy Corner and The Lemon Tree is hideous and should not be allowed to look that way. (Used to be Parry's)”

“Got a better idea - if anyone knows where Charlie Betts lives we can build it next to him!”

“Sounds like a great idea Charlie! Hornsea definitely needs bringing into the 20th Century let alone the 21st I sometimes think! It is a lovely town and I am proud to live here (fairly new arrival tho of 7 yrs!). But it could be a real gem if only things happened more quickly. The old petrol station and fishing boats compound have looked an eyesore for far too long, and I wonder what visitors must think - especially those from abroad!! Have often thought a lovely art and craft centre with proper tea room would be lovely where the Floral is now, where crafts people could sell their wears on a permanent basis - am sure that would draw visitors here.”

“Nice idea Charlie, just hope there`s a way of getting the council to read it. Hope you have sent it in writing to them. Let`s wake up Hornsea Town Council, we need Tesco, new Floral Hall (more central), petrol station, a cinema and more to entertain the youngsters of the town. Without these facilities who is going to want to visit our lovely town???”

“if floral is going in the park, what is going to go where floral was????

    whats happening with the amusments?
    how about the gas station.
why did hall garth parks pond get filled in?

why is it games with council?

if you make a change in hornsea keep it clean and nice.

change the teens, give them more....
not youth clubs and that because not all teens get along with one another...
    cinema would be nice....
    put that where amusements where......”

“Being relatively new to Hornsea (3 years) and living near the Floral Hall I would welcome the move but can sympathise with keeping the 'park as a park' but think the idea of a cycle/running track with some lighting around the outside being an idea worth taking forward.
If you want to move the Hall into the town and not take the space from the park then why not put it on the eye-sore that used to be the garage with the opening on the park side if needs be! There will be ample parking facilities and lighting in the local vicinty and it will keep all the pub/resturant/night club in the same area as the rest of the bars.
I must also agree with all the comments above that the sea front is far from satisfactory and it really does do nothing to promote a positive attitude towards what is a lovely town. It's a real shame as the potential for Hornsea being put on the map and reaping the financial benefits from visitors is just slipping away as quick as the coast line!”

“That would be a good move for Hornsea in general terms.
As a previous Manager, my imagination is now running wild on what new business it could attract that would be so beneficial to the town. However, my concerns as always, are of the present managerial knowledge, experience and skills that are lacking at the present Floral Hall, that could be transferred and wasted on such a great forward thinking idea.”

“A good idea that will be an asset to the development of what is fast becoming a ghost town.

For that reason it will be opposed and dismissed out of hand by those whose policy on promoting Hornsea is akin to rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic.”

“This is a smashing idea it will give a much needed lift to the town centre. I hope someone takes note of Charlie's letter and puts the plan forward. The thought of building it on the front with rising sea levels is silly.Hornsea does really need bringing up to date. For goodness sake hurry up with the building of a new Tesco shopping centre with a petrol station. most people go out to Bridlington to do the major shop, personally I only shop for fresh meat & local services such as plumbing and electricals in Hornsea”
