Food review: The Oyster Catcher pub, Kingswood, Hull
Having moved to Kingswood several months ago, my partner and I decided it was about time we tried out our local pub and, after finally finding the time to go, we weren't going to let a weather forecast of several inches of snow stop us. After all, if you're going to get snowed in anywhere, it might as well be your local.
So, after a blustery and slippery ten-minute walk to The Oyster Catcher, we were pleased to get out of the wintry weather and step inside the warm and cosy venue. The pub, which has been revamped fairly recently, has a fresh and contemporary feel about it.

The Oyster Catcher's mixed grill.
We found a nice, quiet table in the corner and perused the huge menu. The first thing we noticed was that the pub offers two-for-one on all main meals all day, every day, which is one of the best deals we've seen.
After spending at least five minutes trying to choose our meals, we decided we'd share a starter in order to save some room for pudding. We opted for classic nachos (£4.25).

For the main course, I chose the Cajun-spiced bean burger (£8.75), while my partner decided to brave the mega tower burger (£10.25) – a 16oz tower of beef burgers with double bacon, double-melted mature cheddar, onion rings and mayonnaise.
While the pub was fairly busy – it was a Friday night – I didn't have to wait long at the bar for a friendly member of staff to take our order. She was very chatty and, in between making drinks, she even found the time to sign me to the venue's loyalty card, which will should come in handy.
Our nachos arrived swiftly and were demolished within a matter of minutes. You can't really go wrong with nachos, but these were tasty.
Our plates were cleaned away promptly, and we had just enough time to notice that the snow had started coming down thick and fast outside – perhaps a snow-induced lock-in was on the cards after all – before our main courses were placed on our table.
My bean burger was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. It had a slight kick that wasn't too overpowering and was offset nicely by the tangy mayonnaise. The chunky chips were a nice accompaniment and, despite giving it my best shot, I couldn't quite manage to finish the huge portion.
My partner's mega tower burger certainly lived up to its name. It was humongous! My partner described his meal as "a tower of meaty goodness", which, I think, means he enjoyed it, but after what was a very valiant effort on his part, it's not surprising that he couldn't clear his plate.
After much debating, I decided I really didn't have room for a pudding, as much as I wanted to sample some of the appetising treats on the menu, but I will be back to give at least a couple of them a try.
We did, however, stay for a couple more drinks while we waited for the snow to die down, and enjoyed a good natter in the cosy surroundings.
With the bill coming in at a little over £30 for our meals and a couple of drinks each, we thought it was very good value for money.
On our walk home through a snow-covered Kingswood, we were already planning our next visit to The Oyster Catcher and vowed to make the most of the deals our new local has to offer.
