THE community of east Hull came together for a testing 72-hour five-a-side football match in aid of a brave little girl battling cancer.

Mark Long, a close family member of Jazmine Jones, organised the charity tournament to raise money for the 8-year-old who has non-hodgkin's lymphoma.

The event, held at Soccer Sensations near Craven Park, helped raise thousands of pounds to send Jazmine, of Bransholme, to Florida.

Aimee's uncle Mark, of nearby Saltshouse Road, said: "We've had about seven main people take part and others have played for a few hours and popped along to see Jazmine.

"We started on Thursday and finished Sunday evening and even at 2am the ball was being kicked about.

"Jazmine's teachers came down so we thought we'd pick up the pace a bit. She loves being on the pitch."

The bubbly youngster even received a hug from Hull City legend Ken Wagstaff.

Barry Ingram, 37, participated in the challenge and said the fundraisers have become great friends.

He said: "My daughter Gabrielle is friends with Jazmine but I'd never really met her parents.

"Those who have taken part in fundraising for her dream have now become close and we'll all be keeping in touch.

"Our biggest donation so far has been £1,300 and there's so much more coming in.

"We just want to thank everyone who has been involved and for giving up their time."

Mark and Barry would especially like to thank the work of Jst 4 Fun in Sutton Fields for supporting the cause.

Jazmine's dad Lee, 36, said emotional support throughout this difficult time is just as valuable as financial help.

He said: "We've been offered a holiday villa in Florida from a gentleman who came up to us out of the blue.

"The fundraising events have really helped to bring everyone together and a lot of the people from the match already feel like friends."
