David Meyler will go in search of a third goal in three matches at Derby - in what may turn out to be the final appearance of his loan spell.

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill said today he may recall the Irishman after tonight's game to strengthen a Black Cats squad depleted by injury.

He told BBC Sport: "They play tonight and he would be recalled for the Christmas period, which we will have to do."

Steve Bruce is hoping the prospect of regular first-team football will yet persuade O'Neill to allow Meyler to continue with the Tigers over a testing Christmas period.

“He fits in lovely with our style of play. Not to sure about the goal celebration though. However i don't really care how bad a celebration can be, i would watch it week in week out if it meant he was banging them in for the super tigers. Lets break the bank and sign him, Stockdale brady, and A another striker in January”

“Although this loan system lark can come in handy at times,it's must be doing Bruce's head in right now. The sooner City sign the players who we need the better for everyone concerned now methinks.”
