From a lineout on their left the ball was moved quickly across the backline to Ross Hayden who was tackled just short but reached over the line.
A powerful run by Jade Gardiner into the visitors’ half led to a penalty for offside which Ian Archibald converted from 30 metres.
Another fine run by Gardiner set up attacking play in the visitors’ 22, which ended with David Worrall touching down under the posts.
Archibald added the conversion to take Beverley 10-5 ahead.
Edu Hanekom for Cleckheaton was yellow carded for fighting and Beverley’s Gareth Jackson survived several warnings before the referee lost patience and sent him to the sin bin.
Cleckheaton’s Ben Wade was also given a yellow card immediately before the final whistle.
Early in the second half Beverley stretched their lead to 10 points when Cameron went over.
Gardiner deservedly added a third try.
With five minutes remaining Gill did get over when he took a long pass from Mike Kilgannon to touch down in the corner as Beverley wrapped things up.
It was not a match that will linger long in anybody’s memory but at least for Beverley it brought a welcome win that improves their league position.
