Contractors at an East Yorkshire gas terminal have walked out in a show of solidarity with workers in North East Lincolnshire.

More than 600 contractors at Lindsey Oil Refinery near Immingham, downed tools yesterday in an illegal walk-out, angry that a contract on the site had been awarded to an Italian firm over British companies.

And the row threatened to escalate after other contractors – in support – also stopped work, despite union officials at Unite saying they could not officially support the action.

These included workers at PSN in East Yorkshire.

The firm has a contract with Centrica Storage Ltd as one of their providers of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation design services at the Rough gas storage facility and Easington terminal, near Withernsea.

“As European consortia own virtually ALL of our energy supplies and other essential requirements, things can only get worse.
And them, our loyal caring MP's will be fighting to get on the 'gravy' train and ferries to their beloved Europe.”

“British jobs for British Workers. Brown os soooo wrong! he will be told it has to be European jobs for European Workers. That's what free movement of labour means in the EU. It's the only Union I wish I had never joined.”

    “Ernesto, don't you mean ENGLISH?
Most 'British' people are villains, murderers, fraudsters and paedophiles, who the government won't deport, in case they are tortured.
Instead of trying to rule the foreign justice systems, they should be revising ours, to take into account millions of illegal imigrants and serious criminals, who have no value on any life but their own.
They come here, because they can ply their sordid trades and then get one of our upstanding lawyers, to get them off, under the pigging useless Human Rights Act.
We have a treacherous government, now mostly unelected Ex MP's and dodgy business men, who are legislating daily AGAINST HARD WORKING and HONEST
citizens of the UK, whilst accepting money from anywhere, then pleading that they 'made an honest mistake'.
If they are so competent, why do so many of them make such mistakes over financial matters.
Do they ever lose money through their abject forgetfulness?
    I think not!”

“well done.... its about time action is taken. we need to keep our jobs safe and make sure that UK JOBS are done by UK WORKERS. I will support these lads even if it means prices of oil increase and there are knock on effects. If the WHOLE of the UK has to take action of this type to secure jobs then so be it.”

“Why has/wasn't this on National BBC, in order to inform the country how two-faced Gordon Brown et al are with their "British Jobs for British workers". Again they're doing as they're told. I won't ask the whereabouts of our "defenders of the working classes" MP's,again, conspicuous by their silence and absence.”

“The stupid ones are all those who voted in favour of going into the EEC (as it was then). The Unions and us lefties were against it because we knew what it would do to our future. It killed our fishing industry (and weren't the Spaniards pleased?) It decimated our manufacturing industry and now it is danger of taking over all our jobs. This 'free movement of labour' is a one way street. Next time vote for the Party that says British for the Brits. There is one, you know.”
