WEST HULL: Gates are to be installed on alleyways and tenfoots to crack down on the high number of shed and garage burglaries in the area.

Hull City Council is contributing half of the total costs of the gates, which will be added to alleyways and tenfoots in the Willerby Road area.

A spokesman for the West neighbourhood policing team said: "The Derringham ward has seen a relatively high proportion of offences of burglary to sheds and garages.

"Generally, this is because of the high number of tenfoots and dark alleyways in the area.

"Thieves often target shed and garages to steal cycles, power tools, fishing equipment, golf clubs and anything else of a financial value.

"We want residents to make sure they are vigilant and ensure garages and sheds are locked and as secure as can be."

A spokesman for the city council said: "The schemes are reliant on all households that back on to the proposed tenfoot agreeing to the scheme and need to be led by a resident."

Officers will also be visiting properties to assess sheds and garages and advise residents on how to improve security.
