EAST RIDING: St Anne's Special School in Welton has been awarded the British Council's International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.

The Saint Helen's Drive School took part in activities including learning about poverty in India, looking at the effect of food miles as well as Chinese New Year and Mardi Gras.

Pupils also established links with schools in Estonia, The Gambia and India.

Sharron O'Keefe, international co-ordinator at the school, said: "The staff and the students have all worked very hard. The students have a much greater understanding and awareness of global issues."
