MALET YC 4 HORNSEA TOWN 1

A young Hornsea team began at a very high pace which had the Malet defence at full stretch in the opening stages.

Gradually Malet began to cope with the high tempo game and made some good scoring opportunities which unfortunately were not taken.

Hornsea took the lead when a free kick was floated into the Malet penalty area and hit the underside of the crossbar and into keeper Hawksworth hands and over the goal line.

This ignited Malet and within two minutes Chris Hunt had equalised and then Simon Spencer put Malet ahead with Malet now well on top.

In the second half Malet attacked well and Paul Burton scored from the penalty spot after Steve Ratcliff had been needlessly fouled in the area.

Chris Hunt scored a fourth goal to put the game beyond Hornsea and crowned a good team performance from Malet.

POCKLINGTON TOWN 0 CHALK LANE 3

Three goals from defenders secured Chalk Lane's first win of the new season at the third attempt after two disappointing 1-1 draws.

Manager Chris Hartley had to make several changes to the side that played against Hornsea with Dave Blanchard and Dave Bannigan being recalled to replace the injured Rob Nevis and Chris Wainman.

Ironically it was these two who provided the decisive firepower, despite some excellent work throughout the game by the front two of Joe Addinall and Joe Lightowler.

Blanchard opened the scoring in the 20th minute when he latched on to a right wing cross with a brilliant volley from outside the penalty box to round off a tremendous sweeping move.

Pocklington were always threatening however but generally the Chalk defence held with Bannigan, Mike Smith, Lee Mankel and Danny Thompson all outstanding.

Chalk continued to play well and began to take control and they extended their lead when Bannigan was allowed to take the ball in a fire in a shot which squeezed under Carl Silburn in the home goal.

Shortly afterwards Silburn pushed a Ryan Mellors free kick on to the bar and re-gathered. Joe Addinall then jinked into the area only to see his shot ricochet off the post.

Pocklington were made to pay once again for allowing Bannigan too much space in the dying minutes when he was allowed to stroll into the box and hammer the ball home passed Silburn to make it 3-0.

This rounded off an excellent team performance by Chalk Lane.

HESSLE RANGERS 2 BEVERLEY TOWN 1

Hessle continued their impressive start to the season with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Bev Town.

This game was played on very slick surface following heavy rain showers which made for an exciting game.

The opening half hour both defences held the upper hand, and restricted any meaningful efforts on goal, which meant neither keeper been over stretched.

The deadlock was broken when Briggs delivered a good corner that was headed back across the goal were M. Dale smashed home from close range on 32 minutes.

Hessle, buoyed by the goal, found an extra bit of confidence which was demonstrated by D. Bird when he chest controlled and turned to volley into the top corner two minutes later.

Bev Town responded well, playing some crisp passing football, which paid dividends when G. Lamplough latched onto a good pass and finished well to make it 2-1 at half time.

The half started much the same with Bev Town having more possession but failing to break down a resolute Hessle defence, which was admirably marshalled by R. Downing, whose aerial presence was commanding.

Bev Town thought they had equalised but D.Wilkins' last-ditch tackle blocked the goal bound effort.

Hessle responded and thought they had increased their lead only for the ref to blow for a foul and disallow the goal.

Back came Bev Town who had an effort rebound off the cross bar from a glorious free kick to remind Hessle how fragile their lead was.

With the game getting stretched going into the last few minutes there were chances for both teams to exploit the space and score, but it was Hessle who enjoyed a hard fought victory.

NORTH FERRIBY UNITED RES 3 SCULCOATES AMATEURS 4

Sculcoates Amateurs found themselves 3-0 down at half time due to some poor defensive play, but Scully being Scully turned it around in the second half, a Sean Lyons' hat-trick and one from Danny Drayton got Scully their first win of the season in an entertaining match.

CHALK LANE 1 HORNSEA TOWN 1

A close game which either side could have snatched victory. Hornsea Town scoring first with Phil Skitt blasting the ball in the roof of the net with neat play leading to the goal.

Chalk Lane applied lots of pressure and was unlucky not to equalise in the first half with two good opportunities hitting the post and crossbar.

The second half proved to be tight with both teams cancelling each other out.

Chalk Lane were forced to play the long ball with Hornsea looking the better footballing side.

Chalk Lane was rewarded with a well taken goal scored by Joe Addinall hitting the ball first time from a well directed cross.

Phil Skitt could have snatched victory, missing two gilt-edged chances which could have sealed the win for Hornsea.

CHALK LANE 1 HORNSEA TOWN 1

Chalk Lane repeated their opening day result of 1 -1 when they entertained a young and enthusiastic Hornsea team at the University on the 3g, once again having to come from behind to get the point.

The game started brightly with both sides going close and Joe Lightowler was particularly unfortunate after four minutes when his rasping short smacked against the bar and bounced over with Rich Dexter in the Hornsea goal well beaten.

Mark Bennett, standing in goal for Chalk in the absence of Phil Dobson, had to be on his toes to save soon afterwards before Lightowler saw another brilliant effort hit the post on 21 minutes.

The game was end to end and it was Hornsea who took the lead in the 41st minute with a well taken strike that left Bennett with no chance.

Chalk started to press for an equaliser and they had once again to look to Joe Addinall to score.

He fired home an equally unstoppable shot in the 59th minute to set up a tense finish.

Chalk went close on several occasions and Hornsea managed to scramble the ball off the line on several occasions with last ditch defence.

But Chalk had Bennett and James Robinson to thank for preventing Hornsea taking the lead along with Phil Skitt who twice had the opportunity on to win the game with one-on-ones with the Chalk keeper only to see his efforts go narrowly wide.

HALL ROAD RANGERS RES 3 MALET YC 6

A much improved team performance resulting in Malet securing their first win against a depleted Hall Road Reserves due to first- team call-ups.

Hall Road took the lead when Malet tried to play the offside trap.

However, the offside player did not play the ball allowing a midfield player to run on and score easily.

However, Malet dug in and scored six goals from McKay 2, Paul Burton 2, Simon Spencer and Andy Cantwell.

Hall Road had a lot of possession but did not look like scoring until the last five minutes when they scored twice to make the final score 6-3 to Malet.

Marksman for Rangers were Blagdon (2) and Remy.

HESSLE RANGERS 1 HEDON RANGERS 0

Hessle continued their good start to the season with a hard earned 1-0 victory.

Hessle started brightly in a game that was quite open with both teams eager to get on the front foot and play attacking football.

Hedon were proving to be a handful up front with M. Carling leading their line well and keeping Hessle defenders on their toes.

Hessle broke the deadlock in the 24th min when L. Gardiner tapped home from close range with Hedon desperately appealing for offside.

Two minutes later and Gardiner had a glorious chance to score but tamely fired his shot at the keeper when faced with a one on one chance.

Hedon had their opportunities to equalise in a very competitive first half but were thwarted by some good goal keeping by J. Garniss.

The second half started in the same vein as the first, with the battle for midfield supremacy been keenly contested.

The difference between the two sides was Hessle's poor ball retention.

On too many occasions their passing was intercepted, or badly directed, which continually gave Hedon possession in dangerous areas, and were fortunate not to be punished.

As the game approached the final quarter, Hedon pushed forward to find the equalising goal but found that Hessle have found a new defensive resilience this season which has proved to be the foundation on which their good start to the season has been built on, and hopefully continues, to secure a 1-0 win and leave Hedon thinking on another day they should have taken a share of the points.

MALET LAMBERT YC 1

HEDON RANGERS 6

Malet began well and looked the stronger side in the opening 30 minutes.

However, chances were not taken and Hedon gradually got back into the game.

In the second half Hedon dominated the game as goalkeeper Constable was injured and had to be replaced.

They were good value for their dominance taking full advantage of the situation to score six times to cap another poor performance from Malet.

Scorers for Hedon were Parkinson, Adams, Hall (2) and Swatman (2).

ST ANDREWS 5 HORNSEA TOWN 1

In the first 20 minutes Hornsea should have been 4-0 up but missed some very good chances.

Leng made it 1-0 on 23 minutes.

St Andrews started to play football at last and then Ellerby made it 2-0 with a goal from 35 yards.

Hornsea made it 2-1 within 10 minute of the restart with a goal from Phil Skitt with his first touch as substitute then Leng made it 3-1.

Leng completed his hat-trick with a goal from six yards out.

Chadburn on for Stephenson made it 5-1 with a wonderful free kick from the edge of the area.

This was a good all round team performance from a young team but Hornsea urgently need a goal scorer.

NORTH FERRIBY RESERVES 3 HESSLE SPORTING CLUB 0

Hessle Sporting Club went into this game after a terrific weekend win.

Hessle started reasonably well and had a few near chances early.

Ferriby gradually took control with three well taken goals by in-form Alex Davidson.

As the game went on Hessle gave Ferriby too much respect and this caused the goal difference.

Fox in the Hessle goal had a terrific game saving a penalty but on the night Ferriby were the better team.

POCKLINGTON TOWN 0 BEVERLEY TOWN 1

Town playing with composure and confidence created the first chance on three minutes, Dozza Durham combined well with McKeowan who cut a ball back from Lamplugh to fire his shot just wide.

From a Town free kick out on the left edge Ricardo in an unusual role at left back placed the ball straight onto the head of Jagger which clipped the outside of the post.

Town were dominant as more chances for Durham and Custas went begging.

Town opened the scoring on 41 minutes, a lovely flighted free kick from Overton evaded the defender only for Ricardo to delightfully float a looping header onto the opposite top corner.

Pocklington came more into the game after the break but Beverley created the better opportunities, with Tom McKeowan outstanding on the night.

Two very good efforts could have made the scoreline more comfortable.

A chip just over the bar and a left foot drive into the side net.

A Jay Custas header went just wide before a couple of indecisive moments in the Town defence, but Town held on for the points.

HALL ROAD RANGERS RES 2 CLEETHORPES TOWN 2

In the early stages Hall Road Rangers Res dominated play and S Graham scored for Hall Road.

Cleethorpes then dominated and goals from Simpson and Jones gave Cleethorpes the lead.

HRR had an uphill task and manager Darren Wilson switched to three at the back and introduced another attacker.

Despite several chances HRR could only find a goal from Thompson.

They created a lot of openings but failed miserably in front of goal.

HESSLE SPORTING CLUB 1 SCULCOATES AMATEURS 1

Hessle SC's second home game started as it finished with non-stop fast passing football.

Both sides could have scored on several occasions.

Sculcoates' Darren Catchpole broke the deadlock just after half time but Hessle never lacked fight and Gareth Wray came to Hessle's rescue with a Jamie Taylor cross finishing with a Gareth Wray head into the Sculcoates net.

WESTELLA & WILLERBY 3 ST ANDREWS 2

After a mix up with the goalkeeper and defence Westella Reserves went 1-0 up and further pressure resulted in a second goal for the hosts before half-time.

St Andrews were not playing well and made the game easy for Westella.

With 20 minutes left Chadburn pulled a goal back.

Westella made it 3-1 before Nahar completed the scoring.

DIVISION ONE

INTER CHARTER 5 BRANSHOLME ATHLETIC 0

This was a good game played in a sporting manner.

Charter were leading 3-0 at half-time after playing some really good football.

Both sides had several chances but Mike Draper in goal made some fine saves keeping a clean sheet.

Two more goals in the second half completed a convincing victory.

A great hat-trick from Richard Hood with Fieldhouse and McCloud also hitting the net.

LONG RISTON 4 EAST RIDING RANGERS 3

A day more suited to cricket but both sides gave their all for the full 90 minutes despite the heat in a match that wasn't settled until the very last throw of the dice.

The home side took the lead through Newton on 15 minutes after a well worked one-two opened up the East Riding Rangers defence for the first goal.

But five minutes later it was 1-1 as the visitors converted a corner despite an initial save on the line.

On approximately 30 minutes an interception and pass from defence by Jamie Houlton out wide saw a first time cross cause panic in the Rangers defence and of the two players queuing up for Riston it was Lee Chapman scoring his third of the season who nosed Riston ahead again.

But on the stroke of half-time a long throw from the visitors evaded everyone except a Rangers player at the far post for 2-2 at the break.

A close second half saw the two defences coming out on top for half an hour despite some jittery moments in both six-yard boxes as throws, crosses, corners and free kicks were thrown in.

The shut outs couldn't continue and it was Riston's John Gawthorpe who scored in the top corner with an excellent header following a Phil Revell cross.

It looked like it was Riston's game as they started to carve out some good chances but none found the net.

Then the visitors looked like they'd secured a draw with a long-range shot, initially saved but netted by the alert attacker following in.

The clock was ticking down when John Gawthorpe found the net again with his second goal well into stoppage time to secure Riston's first points of the season.

East Riding Rangers suffered three serious injuries and they were reduced to playing the last 10 minutes with only 10 men.

Marksmen for Rangers were Sherwood, Peacock and Bullman.

NORTH FERRIBY ATHLETIC 0 CROWN 2

A very evenly matched first half saw the result at a stalemate with both teams testing each others keepers to the full.

Mimmack for Crown pulled off a magnificent finger tip save to deflect the ball onto the cross bar whilst at the other end Crown should have gone 1-0 up had it not been for Ferriby's keeper Ogden who saved three shots in succession.

After the turn around Crown came out the stronger of the two teams and their efforts were rewarded by a blistering strike from Morfitt.

Ferriby tried to increase the pressure but to no avail as Crown struck again from sub Andy Brindle but the ref deemed him to be offside.

Shortly after Brindle turned provider for Morfitt's second goal.

WITHERNSEA 2 SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC RES 6

Withernsea came in to this game looking to make up for a horror show a week earlier that saw them beaten 2-0 by Brandesburton.

With Frazer, Keyworth, Harris and Dawson all missing, the management team opted to bring in Paul Wilkinson, Jimmy Neilson, Phil Wicks, Jamie Bassett and Mark Grainger.

As for the visitors they were buoyed by the inclusion of Scott Phillips, the First Team's vice captain who is currently subject of a club disciplinary action following an incident in last week's FA Cup fixture.

Also included was former Hull City YTS player Freddy Rawson for the first time.

Things didn't start well for Withernsea, they found themselves 2-0 down after just 10 minutes.

When Bentley volleyed home from a corner things started to look more positive and Withernsea got on top of the game, it may well of been different had Neilson's header gone in, which it would have had it not been for an outstanding save by goalkeeper Ellis.

He also saved a long range effort from Finn and tipped a Bentley attempt onto the post.

The visitors then broke to make it 3-1 before firing in two more before half-time to see the scoreline at 5-1.

In the second half Withernsea performed much better and scored through Chris Hardcastle via a quickly taken free-kick.

Finn then headed an effort wide, Bentley fired one wide and Neilson also hit wide. Richardson had to save one attempt from close range but then the icing was put on Boro's cake when a corner wasn't cleared and Finn deflected a volley from the edge of the area into his own net. Goalscorers for Scarborough were Agar, Phillips (2), Stoat, Thompson (2).

This week, apart from a 10-minute spell in the first-half, Boro were just a different class to Withernsea, but a result needs to come sooner rather then later for the Seasiders and they will hope this is the case away at East Riding this Saturday.

BRANDESBURTON 0 NORTH CAVE 6

North Cave commenced the game brightly with good passing.10 minutes into the game, Brandesburton gave Cave a breakthrough courtesy of an own goal.

Cave created more chances and goal two came from Gorman. Craig Cockin scored from the 25-yard mark to make it 0-3 Cave.

Two minutes later Gorman took his second followed by a goal from Justin Marjoram and Cockin scored his second at the half way mark of the first half to make it 0-6 North Cave.

The second half died out with Cave still creating chances but unable to add to the score-line.

A good all round performance.
