An East Riding school will feature on popular children's television show Blue Peter this Thursday.

A matchstick model of the Humber Bridge, made for Goole High School by a parent, is to feature on Thursday's edition of Blue Peter, after producers on the programme made an emergency call to the school for help with a challenge presenter Helen Skelton is taking up for Comic Relief. She is attempting seven challenges in seven weeks in aid of the charity push and last weekend she was to decorate the Humber Bridge with bunting made by Girl Guide groups from around the country.

In an urgent call to the school, producer David Waters explained they desperately needed a model of the bridge for Helen to demonstrate in miniature what she would be doing on the life-sized structure.

David said: "We heard about the bridge at Goole High School and thought it would be perfect."Helen and the production team came into school last Friday, where they met student Bethany Brown, whose father George built the bridge out of 125,000 matchsticks.

"It was fantastic meeting Helen and I am really proud that my dad's bridge is going to be on Blue Peter," said Bethany.

The model bridge, which measures just less than 9ft long and 2ft tall, is on display in the school's new building for all pupils to see.

The attention to detail on the matchstick model is incredible, with cars, and even walkers with their pet dogs visible upon closure inspection.Blue Peter airs on CBBC at 4.45pm on Thursday, March 14.

    “Strangely
This programme has been running for what, 50 years, can you name any other instance in those years when they damaged anything.

If not. How can they "have a record" of damaging exhibits”

“Blue Peter don't have a good track record in looking after stuff on their show. Remember the very expensive Lego man that was beheaded by one of the presenters?”
