A HOMEOWNER stuck in the middle of a regeneration area has spoken of his misery as homes opposite are knocked down.

Michael Keal's home is just one of two properties in Greek Street not earmarked for regeneration.

  1. Michael Keal in Greek Street, west Hull.

Homeowner: Michael Keal in Greek Street, west Hull.

But Mr Keal, a train driver, represents a lone voice in his battle to move out of the empty street.

Now, the properties opposite are being knocked down.

He said: "They have just started knocking down the houses opposite me.

"Our home has been rocking and it is so dusty. Everything I feared would happen is happening."

Mr Keal, 43, who lives with his partner and two daughters, has tried everything to secure a move away.

He said: "My local councillors came round and spoke to me and offered their support but they can't doing anything to help me move.

"There is no way we want to stay in the empty street.

"I asked the council to buy me out at the original market value but they refused.

"I took it to the ombudsman but, while she sympathised, she still came down on the side of the council.

"We can't face living through this."

“Seriously you are not on your own, at least when the new houses go up, the value of your property will go up with it, hopefully. What about the poor ******s that re-mortgaged to improve their own properties with the promise the whole area will improve (back in early 2000), now left in negative equity, to be driven down by absent landlords, which the Labour Government failed to address. This whole regeneration b******t has driven the decent, middle class working family away. Go to your local Cllr, they will tell you, it's not them it's Keep Moat, and they will tell you, sorry mate your face don't fit, your middle class, your working to survive, to provide a decent home and environment for your family, what planet are you on.
You have hope, hold on to that. Home owners on Arthur Street, Granville Street and Whitaker Street still don't know what will happen since works was suppose to start on back in 2010.”

“stick it out and one day you'll be locally famous as the old hermit in the spooky house across road. You'll get Peter Levy putting yon Look North as a local eccentric celeb. You could come on telly in a ringmasters suite and a top hat.”

“Well if they're knocking everything down then when they re-build he may find his house to be worth MORE than it ever was....

    Food for thought....”

“So the only thing that's changed since the original article is that more have been knocked down?”

“Bet things would be different if Michael wasn't English, wasn't white or wasn't working though.”
