Grieving Hull man took overdose days after grandmother's death

A grieving Hull man took his own life just four days after the funeral of his grandmother.

Lee James Gordon, 38, suffered mental problems and could not cope with her death, an inquest in Hull heard.

His body was discovered by his family at his home in Lakeside Grove, Gipsyville, on Sunday, May 13. He had taken an overdose.

Mr Gordon began suffering paranoid psychosis following an industrial accident ten years ago.

He struggled to cope and could not return to work.

His mum, Josie Gordon, told the inquest: "The industrial accident really affected him and he suffered bad health problems.

"He had to sell his house and move back in with us."

On a couple of occasions he moved to new flats.

Mrs Gordon believed his family could not have done anything more to help.

She said: "We did everything we could for him but we couldn't do anymore.

"Sometimes his illness would improve but then he would get worse again."

Pathologist Dr Ian Richmond told the inquest Mr Gordon died following an overdose of painkillers and amphetamines.

Mr Gordon had overdosed on previous occasion and left a note to his family.

In delivering a verdict of suicide, assistant deputy coroner David Rosenberg accepted that not only did Mr Gordon kill himself but he intended to.
