POCKLINGTON TOWN 0 CHALK LANE 3

Three goals from defenders secured Chalk Lane's first win of the new season at the third attempt after two disappointing 1-1 draws.

Manager Chris Hartley had to make several changes to the side that played against Hornsea with Dave Blanchard and Dave Bannigan being recalled to replace the injured Rob Nevis and Chris Wainman.

It was this duo who provided the decisive firepower, despite some excellent work throughout the game by the front two of Joe Addinall and Joe Lightowler.

Blanchard opened the scoring in the 20th minute when he latched onto a right wing cross with a brilliant volley from outside the penalty box to round off a tremendous sweeping move.

Pocklington were always threatening, but generally the Chalk defence held with Bannigan, Mike Smith, Lee Mankel and Danny Thompson all outstanding.

Chalk continued to play well and began to take control and extended their lead when Bannigan was allowed to take the ball in a fire in a shot which squeezed under Carl Silburn in the home goal.

Shortly afterwards Silburn pushed a Ryan Mellors free kick onto the bar and re-gathered.

Joe Addinall then jinked into the area only to see his shot ricochet off the post.

Pocklington were made to pay once again for allowing Bannigan too much space in the dying minutes when he was allowed to stroll into the box and hammer the ball home past Silburn to make it 3-0.

This rounded off an excellent team performance which hopefully has now got the season up and running.

MALET YC 4 HORNSEA TOWN 1

A young Hornsea team began at a very high pace which had the mallet defence at full stretch in the opening stages.

Gradually Malet began to cope with the high tempo game and made some good scoring opportunities which, unfortunately, were not taken.

Hornsea took the lead when a free kick was floated into the Malet penalty area and hit the underside of the crossbar and into keeper Hawksworth hands and over the goal line.

This ignited Malet and within two minutes Chris Hunt had equalised and then Simon Spencer put Malet ahead with Malet now well on top.

In the second half Malet attacked well and Paul Burton scored from the penalty spot after Steve Ratcliff had been needlessly fouled in the area.

Chris Hunt scored a fourth goal to put the game beyond Hornsea and crowned a good team performance from Malet.

NORTH FERRIBY RESERVES 2 MALET YC 1

In an evenly contested fixture with both sides playing attractive football Malet looked to be on top in the early stages though Ferriby threatened with some quick breaks and counter attacking.

The game looked to be heading Malet's way when Ferriby had two players sent off for reckless tackles.

However, Malet were stunned in the 85th minute when a Malet defender was caught out when retrieving a Ferriby clearance and was adjudged to have fouled the Ferriby forward by an assistant referee, despite the referee awarding a corner to Ferriby.

Phil Hawksworth saved the penalty but could not prevent the ball rolling loose for the Ferriby player to score a tap in.

This led to renewed efforts by Malet to score but in injury time Ferriby scored again catching the Malet defence pushing forward to secure an equaliser.

A good game influenced unduly by some controversial decision making.

HESSLE SPORTING CLUB 1 RECKITTS 3

Hessle started strongly with both sides having chances, Reckitts scored first before half time.

Hessle pulled one back early in the second half, but two quick set corners and bad defending gave Reckitts two well taken goals.

Hessle showed they could play at this level and tried several times to pull a goal back, but Reckitts' experience showed up and the full points were deserved by Reckitts.

Horrod, Geraghty and Randle were their marksmen.

HESSLE RANGERS 2 BEVERLEY TOWN 1

Hessle continued their impressive start to the season with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Beverley Town.

This game was played on a very slick surface following heavy rain showers which made for an exciting game.

The opening half hour both defences held the upper hand, and restricted any meaningful efforts on goal, which meant neither keeper being overstretched.

The deadlock was broken when Briggs delivered a good corner that was headed back across the goal were M Dale smashed home from close range for 1-0 on 32 minutes.

Hessle, buoyed by the goal, found an extra bit of confidence which was demonstrated by D Bird when he chest controlled and turned to volley into the top corner for 2-0 on 34 minutes.

Town responded well, playing some crisp passing football, which paid dividend when G Lamplough latched onto a good pass and finished well to make it 2-1 at half-time.

The half started much the same with Town having more possession but failing to break down a resolute Hessle defence which was admirably marshalled by R Downing, whose aerial presence was commanding.

Beverley thought they had equalised but D Wilkins last-ditch tackle, blocked the goal bound effort.

Hessle responded and thought they had increased their lead only for the ref to blow for a foul and disallow the goal.

Back came Town who had an effort rebound off the cross bar from a glorious free kick to remind Hessle how fragile their lead was.

With the game getting stretched going into the last few minutes there were chances for both teams to exploit the space and score, but it was Hessle who enjoyed a hard fought victory.

CHALK LANE AFC 2 SCULCOATES 1

A blistering strike from Adam Wilberforce earned Chalk Lane the points in the fixture against Sculcoates Amateurs as their quest to retain their title gathered pace.

The game was once again was played in difficult windy conditions but Joe Lightowler almost got the game off to a sensational start when his attempt straight from the kick-off had to be tipped on to the bar by James Hitchcock in the Sculcoates' goal.

Chalk kept the pressure up in the early stages but Sculcoates fought back and Sean Lyon just missed out with a good effort after 10 minutes.

The game was hard fought, end-to-end and played in an excellent spirit with Chalk going close after good work between Lightowler and Joe Addinall and on 30 minutes Phil Dobson in the Chalk goal had to be alert pulling off a fine save from Ricky Field.

Chalk took the lead on 35 minutes when Lightowler burst on to a long through ball from Dave Blanchard and he made no mistake carrying the ball in and giving Hitchcock no chance.

The home side maintained the lead to half-time after which Sculcoates with the wind at their backs began to press.

This pressure culminated in a corner on the left which after a goalmouth scramble saw the ball drop to Field who was not going to miss from three yards.

The Chalk goal was threatened again and on the hour Sculcoates could have taken the lead when a close range shot cannoned off the bar with Dobson beaten.

Wilberforce's goal came soon afterwards.

The ball was cleared from a corner and fell to him on the edge of the box and he hit an unstoppable half volley which rocketed into the net seemingly before Hitchcock had seen it.

This setback only served to fire up Sculcoates even more and they had several chances, the best of which came to Danny Drayton in the 80th minute but he could not hit the target.

Chalk regained their composure towards the end and took the sting out of the game with some controlled possession football to see them home for their second victory of the season.

HESSLE SPORTING 2 HESSLE RANGERS 0

Rangers surrendered their unbeaten record to local rivals Sporting, who on the day deserved their 2-0 win.

From the first minute Sporting were far the busier side with Rangers looking a shadow of the side from previous games. Sporting dominated the first half and were unlucky to go in at half time 0-0.

It didn't take long for Sporting to break the deadlock, the irony being that it was a defensive mix up between R. Downing and stand in keeper P. Warren that allowed Sporting to score.

Sporting increased their lead five minutes later when good play down the right was finished from close range for 2-0.

Rangers made three subs and changed formation in an effort to get back in the game for the last half hour.

But in all honesty, Rangers' efforts were in vain.

On the day they were out played in every department of the game by a hungry Sporting side that showed far more passion and commitment.

HORNSEA TOWN 0 BEVERLEY TOWN 0

After the midweek game, Town where looking to improve against a strong Beverley team and improve they did.

Tom Gelsthorpe back from injury made the difference at the back for Hornsea.

Both teams played excellent football but it should have been Beverley Town taking all three points from this game if not for a very determined and defensive minded Hornsea team. Hornsea's look forward to the return of injured players.

ST ANDREWS FC 3 CLEETHORPES TOWN 1

On a windy day that was not good for football, Town took the lead on 10 minutes through D Gorman.

St Andrews made it 1-1 with Leng on 10 minutes.

Just before half time McLouglin made it 2-1 with a swift passing movement and a good finish.

Town started brighter in the second half but gave away too many free kicks.

St Andrews started to pass the ball around and with 15 minutes left Leng popped up to make the final score 3-1.

HALL ROAD RANGERS RES 7 WESTELLA & WILLERBY 0

In a match of kids against men Hall Road Rangers had total control, in fact too much control going 2-0 up inside the first 10 minutes.

Hall Road lost the plot a bit and allowed Westella and Willerby to come into the game.

In the second half, it got a bit scrappy, Hall Road introduced a few substitutes to turn things around which did the trick.

A fine hat-trick from S Blagdon with good support from the Gawthorpe brothers and with M Friend pulling the strings in midfield and D Thompson on the left flank they torn the kids from Westella & Willerby to secure 7-0 win but it should have been more.

DIVISION ONE

KINGBURN ATHLETIC 1 BRANSHOLME ATHLETIC 1

In the first fixture of the season Bransholme Athletic started brightly against home side Kingburn Athletic and were one nil up inside the space of five minutes.

Paul Stevenson coming from deep laid a ball off to Liam Lewis whose quality pass found Brad Allon, the young winger then drove the ball in from a tight angle, which caused confusion as Kingburn's near post and somehow found the back of the net.

Provider Lewis was unlucky not to put the visitors two up when a through ball from man of the match Dean Longhorn again found Brad Allon whose cross was turned over the bar by the head of young Lewis.

On 25 minutes Kingburn had a one on one opportunity but Mike Antcliffe stood tall in the visitors' goal and parried the shot away.

Kingburn were unlucky not to equalise before the half when a looping header hit the top of the cross bar and bounced away to safety.

Brad Allon also had an opportunity to further extend Bransholme's lead when a cross from Andy Fishwick was met with a header that again went over the bar.

The second half saw Kingburn come into the ascendancy as Bransholme's flowing football seemed to falter in the wind and they eventually drew level when a soft free kick seemed to elude the defence on mass and squirm its way into the goal.

Both teams had opportunities to win the game with Leigh Staplehurst shooting wide of the mark for Bransholme on 72 minutes and a fine strike from the edge of the box by the Kingburn attack forced Antcliffe to pull off a flying save.

With the referee adding six minutes to the end of the game Bransholme had no less than three chances to win it.

A long ball came out from Mike Antcliffe saw Lewis Franklin beat the opposition keeper to the bounce only for the resultant header to loop over the crossbar.

Bard Allon then had two golden opportunities, the first saw him work hard to beat the defence and keeper only to side foot the ball harmlessly to the man on the line to clear.

The second was a veritable stinger from 10 yards which crashed off the underside of the cross bar and into the back of the net, only for the referee to deem a Bransholme player in an offside position.

On reflection a draw was probably the right result but Bransholme cannot afford to miss golden opportunities if they want to progress in the Humber Premier League.

With 16 available on the day and three absent from the squad, players were bound to be disappointed not receiving a start, their time will come however but they must want to stay and play together.

With only 12 players currently available for next week's game against Inter Charter, that chance to stake a claim has already arrived.

BRIDLINGTON SPORTS CLUB 0 NORTH CAVE 3

In a game well refereed by John Pickering, North Cave maintained their winning streak at the start of the season. North Cave got off to a very slow start with Bridlington having the play.

A break came for Cave when keeper Jennings, from the Cave goalmouth, scored an amazing goal with a wind assisted kick to place Cave in the lead.

Shortly afterwards, continuing his goal scoring form, Gorman scored to make the HT score 2-0 Cave.

Bridlington had all the play in the second half but the Cave's solid back four of Teale, M Share, A Share and McSeveney, soaked up the pressure to keep the Bridlington at bay.

Gorman took a ball on the break in the 80th minute to score his second goal of the match to give table- toppers North Cave a 3-0 victory.

LONG RISTON 1 CROWN FC 10

Crown FC started strongly and after just 5mins of football Andy Brindle powered down the right hand side, skipped past the left back and drove the ball home to open a flurry of goals leaving the score line 7-0 at half-time.

Other goals came from G.Morfitt (2), R.Kemp, J.Fortes and another two went to Brindle before half-time to give him his hat trick.

After the break Long Riston put up a brave fight for the first 10 minutes and were rewarded with a goal.

However, this only saw Crown react by turning up the heat again and scoring a further three goals from Morfitt, Kerr and Nixon before the final whistle.

EAST RIDING RANGERS 3 WITHERNSEA AFC 0

Withernsea AFC made their first away trip today when they travelled to East Riding Rangers FC.

The Seasiders could probably have made a full team from the players that were unavailable.

Phil Richardson, Gary Wilkinson, Phil Wicks and Mark Sutton were injured.

Mark Clubley, Darryl Harris, Jamie Bassett, Jimmy Dawson, Danny Frazer and Glenn Ratcliffe were also all unavailable while Ashley Marriott will complete a transfer to Hessle Rangers next week.

New signing Tom Andrews, a member of Sproatley Under-18s was on the subs bench along with the returning Simon Wilson.

Things started well, Withernsea controlled the game from the off but were restricted to long range efforts, Hardcastle hit one wide and Keyworth smashed one over.

Neilson nearly saw himself get on the score sheet, but he failed to convert from close range under pressure from the goalkeeper.

The hosts started to get into the game and Bentley had to clear one off the line.

Westoby got a good cross in but nobody could get on the end of it, then Dunn hit one just over.

Things changed in the second-half, Withernsea came under pressure when without the wind.

Riding tried their luck early on with a few long range attempts but as the game went on they got more into the match and created some clear cut opportunities.

Sugden saved one effort brilliantly following a Jimmy Neilson error, he also came off his line quickly to put the forward off when through on goal.

It wasn't long in coming and the first goal came, a long range effort sneaked just in Sugden's post.

Withernsea were then on the back foot for some time as Riding's confidence grew.

Their advantage was soon doubled when the hosts forward slotted home when one-on-one.

Withernsea gradually got back in the game and Westoby tried his luck from range twice and Finn shot over when he should of done better from a Wilkinson pull back.

Riding killed the game with an effort from the edge of the area.

The visitors said Withernsea were the best team they have played yet and how Withernsea didn't score in the first-half is still beyond belief.

Next week the Seasiders travel to Bridlington SC.

EAST RIDING RANGERS 3 WITHERNSEA 0

With a strong wind blowing down the pitch, chances were limited with Rangers going close with an effort cleared off the line.

As the half drew to a close, Withernsea had their best chance with a shot just going past the post.

Both teams went in at half-time evenly matched.

In the second half Rangers took the game to the opposition.

The pressure was showing with the Withernsea keeper making two excellent saves.

The goals soon came to secure a well deserved win.

The marksmen were A Hodgson(2) and J Dunlin.

SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC 1 KINGBURN ATHLETIC 1

Kingburn scored after 23 minutes through Marcus Robinson. Scarborough equalised after 42minutes.
