HULL CITY: Altidore ready to unleash anger on top flight rivals

JOZY Altidore has been backed to take his frustrations out on Premier League defences after finally getting his Hull City career up and running.

The 19-year-old striker, who signed on a season-long loan from Villareal 16 days ago, has seen his top flight debut held up by a string of set-backs.

Despite being granted a work permit early last week, he was forced to spend a week in America awaiting international clearance.

But having arrived back in England on Thursday night and trained with his City team-mates yesterday, Altidore was set to make his Tigers bow against Bolton today.

Brown is now backing the rookie American to channel his frustrations on opponents in the coming weeks.

"He's absolutely champing at the bit, it's been a very frustrating time for him," said Brown.

"He's been a disappointed man but I hope he can take that disappointment out on our opponents, starting with Bolton.

"It's a balance either starting him, let him make an impact and then bring him off after 60 minutes or calling on him off the bench.

"He'll certainly play some part in the game that's for sure."

If Altidore is not handed a start today, he can expect one when City face Southend United in a League Cup tie at the KC Stadium on Tuesday.

Despite being held up in America, the striker has been training with former side New York Red Bulls and Brown expects to have a hungry player on his hands.

"The League Cup could be another chance for him to bed in, but he'll not have a clue who Southend are I'd imagine," he added.

"Hopefully, he'll be able to hit the ground running and make his mark.

"He's trained with the New York Red Bulls but there's no substitute for training with your team-mates, especially when you're new to a team."

Altidore's belated availability may have knock-on consequences for Gabon striker Daniel Cousin.

The international was substituted after just 22 minutes of Wednesday's 5-1 defeat to Spurs and declined the proffered hand of his manager.

While Brown insists there is no problem with Cousin, the snub will not promote the 32-year-old's prospects of another start.

Brown said: "It was a team decision and while I would have been disappointed too, it disappointed me that he didn't see it that way.

"I'm not holding anything against him but it's up to players to fight their way back into the team.

"I don't see it as being an issue. To be taken off after 20 minutes was disappointing for him but at the time it was damage limitation."

“Sporthull.co.uk is going to have update their servers. 1,000's of American fans will become Hull fans if this works out. Just look at Fulham. We got home tonight and watched the game on DVR. I think my 4-year old is now the biggest Hull City fan in New England.”

“Actually, Altidore speaks decent Spanish (having spent the last year in Spain) so might be chatting with Ghilas that way. Either way, I'm quite happy with how they're communicating so far.”
