HULL City have confirmed that Phil Brown has been relieved of his managerial duties at the club and has been placed on gardening leave with immediate effect.

Brian Horton and Steve Parkin will take charge of first-team duties until further notice.

The statement from chairman Adam Pearson revealed the Hull board felt it had to act in a bid to keep the club in the top flight.

The statement read: "Retention of Premier League status is paramount and the board believes that a change in managerial direction is the correct option at this time.

"The club will complete supporters up-to-date in respect of any managerial appointment but, in the meantime, Brian Horton and Steve Parkin will prepare the team for our important game at Portsmouth next Saturday."

"We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Phil for the major success achieved during a period of four seasons in charge at the club and wish him every success for the future.

"Promotion to the Premier League in 2008 and retention of our status on the last day of the 2009 season are unique events in the history of Hull City AFC and both were achieved under Phil's stewardship during a period which will never be forgotten by all connected with the club."

“Long overdue. Brown has developed into a hapless clueless orange clown. He gives the impression of mentally losing the plot. His breakdown obviously happended at half time against Man City last year when the team couldn't sustain his own hype. I've totally had enough of Brown, Horton and his useles cronies and would welcome an intelligent young manager such as Southgate. Please no, not the Ginger Mourinho.”

“A reliable source has told me Mourinho wants out of Italy and to proove he really is the "special one" wants a challenge, he fancies Hull and is not bothered about money in terms of his wages.”

    “A MASSIVE GAMBLE THIS IS.
May not be the right time. Dont like AT ALL the thought of Curbishley. He failed at his last 2 jobs. Would prefer Horton and Parkin to take over. But whats done is done but the ship is sinking now. After such a fantastic effort against Arsenal as well. So unlucky.
Fingers now crossed for the last 9 games. Also feel that BARTLETT has had this planned for weeks. This has just not happened at all. Far to much going on for it to be anything other than a well planned Que. Stay away Curbishley. Put the million in the players pot. A much better chance. imo.”
