HULL CITY: Why League Cup will always cheer Cairney after debut stunner
TOM Cairney is hoping lightning strikes twice when his side take on Brentford in the League Cup tonight.
Almost a year ago to the day, the 19-year-old midfielder announced his arrival in the Hull City first-team with a stunning debut goal in a 3-1 victory over Southend.
And, as a result, the competition holds particularly fond memories for the rookie midfielder.
He saaid: "I'll never forget that day.
"Things changed for me after that and I'll always look back on my debut with happy memories.
"It came as a shock to me. I didn't see it coming but scoring on my debut changed a lot for me.
"The League Cup has a history of giving younger players the chance to make their mark and hopefully we can have a bit of success."

“its only tosh in the cold hard light of a 2-1 defeat, i dont profess to be able to make premonitions, i just have opinions some of which are ok and some of which turn out to be tosh haha!”

“Wouldn't be unhappy to see Halmosi etc getting a go tonight. Hope Cooper, Cairney & Cullen will all play. On the other hand, perhaps it's a good idea to get Simpson, Koren & Bostock as much time together on the pitch as possible.”

“NP should play his strongest side tonight, perhaps the only exception being to give Halmosi a run out at wide left midfield to find out if he's really up for it. We need to build a winning mentality and build condifence, this game is the perfect opportunity.”

“lets pay 11 debutants, all outfield players score and maybe if we get a penalty the goalkeeper can take it and we'll win 11-0 haha!
i hope we dont go into this too weakened, a really solid 2-0 or 3-0 win is just what we need after the last 2 results.
apparently we have to provide the tea and biscuits to the brentford side at half time cause we STILL owe them from the michael turner deal.”
