HULL CITY: Reserves omission means recall for Bullard is unlikely

JIMMY Bullard's chances of a Hull City first-team recall continue to look distant after he was left out of the reserves' trip to Gateshead tonight.

The £5m man was omitted from Nigel Pearson's plans during the opening month of the season to avoid injury scuppering any hopes of a move away from the KC.

The passing of last week's transfer deadline saw any switch back into the Premier League disappear, pushing the City hierarchy into suggesting Bullard would now be back in contention for a first-team place.

But without a game since late April, it appears unfeasible that the 31-year-old would be considered for a comeback against Cardiff this weekend.

Tonight's trip to Tyneside represented the first chance for Bullard to work on his fitness after being overlooked throughout pre-season and the opening month of the campaign.

However, with the Tigers only taking a youthful side to face Gateshead, a route back into the first-team fold looks far from straightforward.

Bullard is likely to hold talks with manager Nigel Pearson before the weekend in a bid to resolve an increasingly awkward situation.

It is understood Bullard has done little to convince the City boss he is hungry for a recall so far this season, but with nowhere to turn until the transfer window re-opens in January, an amicable resolution is top of the agenda.

While Bullard appears to have no way out of the KC Stadium, Kamil Zayatte should complete his loan move to Leicester today, clearing the way for Liverpool defender Daniel Ayala to pen a three-month deal to join the Tigers in time for a debut at Cardiff this weekend.

A City reserve team featuring Will Atkinson, Jamie Devitt and Nicky Feathertsone head to Gateshead tonight looking for a first win of their season (kick-off 7pm).

“Lee: the trouble with a should he / shouldn't he poll is that it is more complicated than that. For me it is he should play IF he is fit, IF his attitude is right, IF he is committed. We don't know the answers to those IFs. Lambrettaman, you really over here? Graham, Hong Kong

Indeed I am, it's my second home, I've been coming regularly for 26 years and I'm currently sat in the Shangri-La in Tsim Sha Tsui, it's 4.51am, I think I might be up a little too early!”

“Why such a stupid report? Why not a report on the City players on interntational duty? Why not a look at the "emergency loan" market opening?
Why nothing on the players that are out there on frees on those that have been made available for loan including players such as Cudicini and Luke Moore- something that would be unltimately more facinating than this drivel!! The HDM reporters are allo busy creaming themsleves over a local rugby derby- which willultimately come to naught (with rugby being a 2d class sport and all)

I had to laugh the other day when the OPTA stats came out - Ashbee is statistically the best City player at the moment. Solano is then statistically the 2nd best!!! It just shows you can make stats do what you want
    AND AN ERROR HAS OCCURED!!!!”

“pops, i think what baz was doing (as the intelligent poster i know him to be) was using those players as an extreme example to make his point which i get cause i have the ability to not take things on face value and appreciate that sometimes its necessary to use examples like that to explain your thoughts. bit of a wasted 2 paragraphs there matey!

see, i could do the same with your comment.....

"His performances last season showed he wasn't prepared to put the effort in"

but i wont cause i know youre just using that sweeping generalisation to try and make your point.

ignore this hdm article, its a space filler on a topic they think we're still interested in. i'll reserve judgement until the press conference and 3pm saturday.”

“Hey BAZ, the players you mentioned in your post ( Best, Marsh, Bowles & Gasgoine), were lightyears away from Bullard in terms of footballing ability. People actually wanted to see these guys in full-flow, because they could turn just about any game on it's head with a moment of pure class.

Sadly the same cannot be said of Jimmy Bullard who, in reality can only dream of being in the same league as those you mentioned.

His performances last season showed he wasn't prepared to put the effort in and actually earn the money he gets paid. He didn't want the ball, gave it away when he did get it, and just stood around looking like he wanted to be somewhere else.

If the guy stops acting like a buffoon, makes genuine attempts to improve as a player, as a person, and as a potential mentor to some of our younger players then good luck to the guy, but at present he's getting exactly what he deserves from the powers that be at Hull City.”

“Senor Bring Bullard Back please read the article again. This is just guess work by a lazy HDM reporter. There is not one quote from anybody to do with Hull City it is just pure speculation. They clearly had nothing to write about today so jumped to this conclusion relying on the fact that most people love to moan and this will give them something to moan about. The last we heard from any official source Bullard is available for selection and it is up to the manager to decide if he merits a place.Normally there is a press conference on a Thursday they could have waited until then to find out if he is in the team and if not they could have asked why. Tony M you have hit on something in the 4th line which is often overlooked in that players with flair have to work hard. The great Brazillian teams always worked hard. I would just add that discipline is important regardless of whether you are a so called flair player or not.”
