FORMER Hull City striker Dean Windass says it is a sad day for Phil Brown after he was relieved of his managerial duties at the club.

Brown has been placed on gardening leave with immediate effect, with Brian Horton and Steve Parkin taking charge of first-team duties until further notice.

Windass was the Tigers hero back in 2008 when scoring the winning goal in the 1-0 win over Bristol City in the Championship play-off final at Wembley to help Brown's men into the Premier League for the first time.

Windass told Sky Sports News: "I feel very sorry for Phil. He's the most successful manager Hull have ever had.

"He was a great manager for me and a good coach as well. It's a sad day for Phil.

"He's done a fantastic job in the time he's been there. To take us (into the top flight) after 104 years was a great journey for us.

"All good things come to an end but he was a good friend and always will be."

“Thanks for all your hard work Phil over the years it has been a great roller coaster of a ride. You will always be a legend in Hull for getting us into the Premiership. Regarding a new manager taking over I would like to see Mark Hughes as he is good coach and has a strong personality and is regarded highly by players and other managers. He will also be able to attract top class players if we stay in the premiership. Come on you Hull”

“All the best for the future Phil,
I don't blame you for the Manchester City dressing down of the Hull city players.
Surely that was on the same lines, as being asked to walk in front of the school at assembly after committing some misdemeanor.
Come you city players wheres your gonads.
    Bill L”

“As a supporter going back to the days of Raich Carter, I never thought I would be able to watch Premiership football in Hull. Thanks Phil, we will always be grateful for that. All the best for your future.”
