HULL CITY: Quiet transfer deadline day on cards – Ayala deal may wait
HULL City appear unlikely to do any business – in or out of the KC Stadium – during the final hours of today's summer transfer window.
With the deadline for permanent deals set to pass at 6pm tonight, the window looks set to close without incident for the Tigers after little sign of movement yesterday.
A proposed loan swoop for Liverpool centre-half Daniel Ayala is unlikely to be completed today, with the onus primarily on reducing the club's wage bill.
But with the Reds keen to see the 19-year-old Spaniard gain first-team experience, a deal should be resurrected when Football League clubs are given the green light to trade in loans from September 8.
A summer window which has seen 18 professionals leave the KC Stadium, and five new signings arrive, instead looks destined for a low-key final day.
City would dearly like to off-load top-earner Jimmy Bullard on loan, as well as out-of-favour winger Peter Halmosi, but with no approaches for either player, the pair appear likely to remain.
Head of football operations Adam Pearson is not expecting a flood of activity.
"At this stage it is difficult to see anything happening," he told the Mail. "Things can change but there's been nothing concrete so far.
"Ideally, we would like to see some movement, but we will have to wait and see."
Pearson is also in regular contact with manager and namesake Nigel, who continues to be monitored in hospital after suffering chest pains on Friday.
The City boss has received encouraging test results over the Bank Holiday weekend but with no game until a trip to Cardiff on September 11, medical staff continue to take a precautionary approach.
"Nigel just needs some rest," added Pearson. "He will have more tests and then enjoy a couple of days of rest.
"Everything seems to be clear on the tests but, as yet, they haven't been able to identify the cause of the chest pains.
"I've been speaking with him every day and hopefully we'll see business as usual by the end of the week."
Under the guidance of assistant boss Craig Shakespeare, the City first-team squad returned to training this morning depleted by the absence of five players on international duty.
Paul McShane and Kevin Kilbane have teamed up with the Republic of Ireland squad for their double-header with Armenia and Andorra, while Robert Koren joined his Slovenia team-mates yesterday.
Kamil Zayatte has travelled home for Guinea's clash with Ethiopia, and Richard Garcia will play in Australia's friendlies in Switzerland and Poland.
Tom Cairney is on standby for Scotland under-21s for their double-header with Belarus and Austria, along with youngster Mark Cullen who is also on a reserve list for England under-19s game with Slovakia on Thursday.

“I really think that we can do something this season, not just because we are Hull City ex of the PL, but because we have something more to build on.
Putting aside the obvious references to our recent club history. The young players who we have already at the club and the new ones brought in, will come together at some point soon and a new first team will evolve. At the moment it is all trial and error. When we get to the point of having a settled team week in week out, I hope/believe that we will start to progress. I am actually reasonably happy with our start. Bitterly disappointed with the way that we have played, but at least we have some points. I do not think that it would have done us any good to have won all of our first matches, we would just be heading for a fall. Now at least everyone knows that we need to improve to succeed. When Harper returns and joins the rest of the new players, on paper we have a fair squad. Sorting out JB will enhance our season. Lets just hope that Pearson gets it right.”

“Whatever the ins and out about Zay and AG, the bottom line is we again have just about the worst defence in this league too and summat had to be done. Praise be to Nige for tackling (pun intended) the problem and so quickly too.
Of course the key is whether the replacements are any better. If his Solano, Bostick, Simpson and Koren are anything to go by so far, we are due a decent one !”

“At Millwall, Zayatte and Gardner were responsible for two goals each, but it's history now.
I suspect Zayatte will move to Leicester in a week and we'll see Ayala come in.”

“Richard you may have been there, I wasn't but the fact is that the replays not only show that Garnder was at fault, losing his place too Cooper backs it up. I thought Zayette was at fault until the replays. It was not the refs fault either, the assistant should have seen the shirt pulling.
Away he's gone and I hope he proves me wrong.”

“Dont need to watch replays as its as clear in mind now as it was watching it all happen. Said at the time get Zayette off. Glad when he is gone. But where to ?”

“MelU, I was there. Do not need commentary. You really do need new glasses man. No way was it AG as you say. Zayette was the problem.
By the way, Shirt Pulling is now an offence, which should have resulted in a free kick to City. Getting beat at the near post was Zayette. How can AG be blamed for that.
Zayette is a liability full stop. Cooper is nervous playing with KZ and who wouldnt be.?
AG maybe lacking confidence but is way better than he is playing at the mo.
Thank goodness Gerrard is in. Much better and will bring Cooper on as well.”

“Richard, AG was totally at fault for all of the goals.
1 He let his man (Morrison) get to the ball "out muscled" in the comentary.
2 He signaled to Dawson and followed the Millwall player into the corner but failed to even attempt to make the tackle. The ball was played into the area over the head of Dawson. Dawson was playing left back and Gardner centre. Dawson should have gone to the corner and Gardener should have been central.
3 Lost in space, Gardner turned his back to the play and was too slow getting back. If he had turned correctly he would have been in position to intercept the cross.
4 Looping header from Morrison!! Gardner should have got the ball first instead he was pushed out of the way.
I suggest that you watch the replays and then come back. Gardner was dire at Brentford. He blames everyone else but whilst they have to clear up after him our total defense gets torn apart. He man could not place a bet never mind a pass.”

“MelU,Southampton. Get to specSavers if you beleave your post 22.17 tuesday.
Zayette was the problem at Millwall not Gardner. Thought you were there.
Goal 1)AG had his shirt pulled by Morrison to gain advantage. Ref. and Zayette were on hand, but both failed to stop the goal.
Goal 2)Zayette woefully beaten at the near post by Lisbie Diving header.
Goal 3)AG rightly called for a goal kick when it was not. Bad defending again from the corner that shud not have been.
Goal 4)Zayette woefully beaten from a a good cross for a prod into thew corner.
So by my count 2 deffo Zayettes fault. 2
he should have done much better.
This problem with Zayette goes back to Clown Browns doorstep. Once Ashbee was rulled out last season PB should have moved Zayette into midfield. Thus not needing to waste over 5 million on the likes of Oli and Sonko. But hey its done now. We move on.
NP/AP are learning fast and moving out the slackers and wasters and high earners. Like the look of the new look Tigers taking shape.”
